-Epic takes 5%, in exchange you get Quixel's entire asset library for free.
-Unity takes 4% max, in exchange you sit there worrying what boneheaded move they will do next.
EDIT: Unity announced it will be a cap of 2.5% or a number calculated based on the amount of new users each month, they said they will go with whatever amount is cheaper and the numbers are self reported.

Unity's problem is EVERYONE's trust broken by its CEO John Riccitiello: ● Video game developers: - Calling some of them "fucking idiots." - Destroying the freemium model. - Deleting clauses from the contract when you get Unity. - With the recent rate change. ● Video game companies: - He is fired from EA for being too greedy. - That Nintendo, Microsoft, Sega and Sony pay their new runtime fees. ● Users: - Suggest reloading weapons for $1 per magazine in Battlefield 3. - Install malware in Unity video games to control the installations. - Its poor management makes users think that a Unity game is a bad game. ● Unity Employees: - Several offices have been closed since he has been CEO. - Employees even make death threats because of the new rates. ● Stock market: - Investors do not trust either, since its inception it has lost more than 50% of its value. - Selling 2,000 shares a week before the announcement of the new rates and 50,000 throughout the year without buying a single one is suspicious. Irrevocable solution: Fire John Riccitiello. Simple solution: 5% commission from $1,000,000 in profits. Suggestion: From $1,000,000 in profits, insert the Unity splash screen. Because? I think the implementation model works the other way around, the way Unity's acquisition plans are, the "bad" games have their seal and the good ones don't, it doesn't make sense... those of us who use Unity love the software, otherwise If it were for this, everyone would even wear their logo proudly. Conclusion: If the problem is not solved, even though Unity is a great software, with these policies they make it the worst and the community will migrate to another engine.

I feel that the best option right now is leaving Unity, trying to change projects from Unity to anywhere else if possible and just see what they do next.
Even if things went back to normal, their true intentions are now very clear and there's no way to know that they won't be trying this type of stuff again in the future.

It still introduces the concept of install pricing. That's a non-starter due to the lack of control the developer has over that fee process, regardless of how it's executed. Yes, it's supposed to be self-reported now - but that's also a massive burden on the developer that I don't think people have quite digested. Unity couldn't track installs - how the hell are you as a tiny developer supposed to do that, exactly?
