He really said: It didn't offend me, therefore it wasn't offensive

charlie is talking about himself. this isn't about idubbbz, this is about charlie's ego. he sees a man taking responsibility for the kind of person he used to be, and it makes him uncomfortable, because he has the same skeletons in his closet, and he is trying to convince himself and everyone else that it's better not to address it because that would mean real, genuine reflection that his career is founded on being shitty online. piss baby behavior.

why is moist critikal defending him as if he was part of any of marginalised groups affected by the culture idubbz built, the apology isn’t for him lol

I think it takes a lot of balls to own up to years and years of your content being pretty shitty and actually apologising. I respect that, actually.

Cr1tikal: I, as a straight white dude, don't think screaming n-word f*ggot is hurtful. Genius, bud. Genius. Why don't you ask a black or queer person who was in high school during the height of iDubbbz' popularity what they thought of it, and how they were treated by classmates who watched that kinda stuff?

'i disagree with your apology' is the most reddit sentence i've ever heard

Moist Critikal is an intellectually incurious person who is extremely uncomfortable reflecting on difficult issues. This is functionally the same as his "videogames shouldn't contain themes or societal commentary" take. He just doesn't want this stuff to ever be addressed or discussed.

Charlie cutting out the bit about the trans fan was the most telling bit for me. It was a clear anecdote as to why he began to change, but that would have been irrefutable proof that Charlie was wrong.

Charlie’s follow-up video - in which he complains that Ian’s whole point could be summarised really quickly and didn’t need to be as long as it was - pretty much confirms his status as one of the least self-aware individuals on the planet.

I feel like there’s been so many bullshit apologies where the only purpose is damage control. It’s hard to watch an apology and not feel like it’s aimed at you and needs to be judged on the merits of how well it appeases your audience. Ian did the right thing by addressing the victims rather than his long time fans.

moist critical being a "both sides" centrist with no actual substance in his content beyond peepeepoopoo jokes? what a surprise

Yeah, this was a really weird take from Charlie. I can't understand why he's seemingly so vehemently against someone genuinely apologizing for something they regret

As a white, masc person, my gut reaction to iDubbbz' apology was similar to Charlie's. I thought it was performative to apologise for past fuckups when you've already demonstrated with your subsequent actions that you've bettered yourself and seen the error of your ways. It wasn't until I read reactions to the video from POC saying that they were waiting for this acknowledgement and explicit apology that I realised I just couldn't understand what it was like to be legitimately hurt by those videos. I can't put myself in their shoes and know their experiences, so it's not for me to say what's performative and what's the right thing to do.

Who is Charlie to tell people when they should,or shouldn't apologize? I've apologized to people about things I did that weighed on my conscious countless times. Half the time they don't even remember it happening, but it's something I still feel the need to apologize for. Charlie is not the arbiter of apologies.

Avoiding accountability is absolutely weak behaviour. Men take accountability for the harm they do. Charlie is soy.

Charlie really hitting us with: "he was a man of his time", when that time is the 21st century.
