What makes conversations like these the worst is that for all the high minded tones they adopt, neither Peterson nor Brand want to actually ground themselves in anything. They're just free floating, untethered from things as piffling as evidence, or the need to build positions based on anything, and they've deceived themselves into thinking that a lofty tone and the kind of detachment you can get by having no skin at all in the game is the same thing as Rationality.
But here's the basics: Brand rails on government acting on behalf of multinational corporations, which isn't a terrible position. But he's doing so to Jordan Peterson, a man most recently working with the Daily Wire, a company founded with seed money by a couple of fracking industry billionaires, among others, for the purposes of telling people that unregulated markets are the way to go, and taxing the wealthy is fascism. Which makes the entire framing of this shit utterly deranged.
