Bigos.... My favorite. I make it (about 5 liter batch) every few weeks. I pack it in containers and freeze, then defrost a container or two at a time. I use half fresh cabbage and half sauerkraut, with added smoked sausage, bacon, carrots, wild mushrooms, onions, and various spices. It's a great multi-purpose meal. If you add enough chopped meats into it, it can be a meal itself, or use it as a side, or filler for baked potatoes, or just serve over garlic mashed potatoes... it's perfect.

Warsaw is not rough. You just happened to end up in a district with communist blocks. Warsaw is very large - it has 18 districts and each one is different. But it is a fact that in all countries under Soviet rule, large-frame residential buildings were built. In Poland, from what people who come to Poland from the east say, they are the best maintained and renovated (e.g. they are insulated and painted in different colors - we like colors after the terrible gray period under communism). However, this is a process (it takes time and a lot of money) and the renovation of these buildings is still ongoing. Warsaw is a mix of modern buildings, old pre-WW2 buildings and communist blocks. In the summer it all looks much better when the trees are green and flowers are blooming everywhere.
