My favourite level in Yoshi's Story was Tall Tower with the lullaby music, bouncy springs and building block aesthetic. Though towards the end you have to jump across balls where you can literally get smashed on the head by a spiky mace. Who built that tower?! What's the purpose? That comic about Black Yoshi is mind boggling! Black Yoshi was always my favourite because his voice was pitched slightly lower and I found it cuter. In contracts, White Yoshi's voice was slightly higher and I loved the attention to detail they put into that game.

I always thought that when Bowser stole the Super Happy Tree, all the Yoshis died. The pre menu prologue refers to the Yoshis we play as as “the surviving eggs.”
So as a child, I thought that the game was literally about genocide, and every time I died, the stakes just got higher. That’s also why I thought Yoshi’s voice changed after the game. The adult Yoshis were dead, so we were left with the baby Yoshis and their baby voices.

Even though this game seems super chill and childish, I think this was the game that made me the most anxious about losing when I was a kid, because when you lose, it plays that sad cutscene of the Yoshis being kidnapped and locked away on the castle tower. I used to feel terrible and think it was my fault that had happened, so I used to take all the care in the world when playing Yoshis Story.
Also those big fishes from the swamp level from the forest world were sooo scary to me. As I mentioned, dying is this game made me super anxious, and the fact that they can 1 hit kill you made things even worse

This is THE game of my childhood. I used to be obsessed with Yoshis because of this game. He's still my favorite Mario character, I always use him in most of the spin-offs till this day! But yeah, there are some aspects of this game that always scared me. Whenever a Yoshi died, I'd get up quickly to turn off the console, because I couldn't handle seeing the animation of them being taken to the bleak castle. It not only made me scared but also VERY sad, to the point of crying. Good times!

I'll admit it, this game scared me as a kid (age 5). Also 2 days before playing this I just learned about the concept of Hell. The first time I died was in the lava world and then seeing a Yoshi being carried to the castle, I literally screamed "AHHHHHH I KILLED YOSHI AND GOT HIM IN HELL!!!!" Never played this game since. It's been over 20 years. Planning to keep this up on Wii U vc soon tho.

The Game Over Screen and music remains one of the the most heart-wrenching moments I ever witnessed in a Nintendo game.
