Her deep navy-blue, illusional, cursed eyes were locked with a padlock to the back of his head. She would willingly sacrifice her last breaths for this faceless creature, this injured bird that left her world bloody and scattered in a thousand sharp shards. Observing his bruised knuckles, a mirroring of the blue-red hues in his sweater, she followed the echo of his beat-up shoes squicking through the hallway, reminiscent of gulls fighting over prey on a distant seashore. In the blink of an eye and half a delusion later, the boy vanished from her sight. Every spare second was consumed in the sanctuary of her thoughts, where she crafted a more bearable and beautiful existence. He monopolized her mind—thoughts, songs, writings, and dreams. His phantom presence was tattooed on her chest, his back imprinted on her lips.
