i fell in love with someone in my class. i gave him loveletters and plushies only to get rejected. The curtains were drawn open and sunlight streamed in. The warmth of the sun touched his skin; he could feel it on the back of his eyelids. On the other side of the bed, a small creak could be heard as it dipped with the weight of her crawling carefully to his side. He could feel the warmth emanating from her fingertips as she cupped his cheek.
"I know you're awake," he could almost feel her smile in her whisper before she leaned down to kiss his forehead. Her curls tickled his nose and he inhaled the faint scent of her strawberry shampoo. He smiled, reaching out to twirl a strand of her brown curls around his calloused finger. Slowly, he moved his finger down to her jawline and then to the curve of her lips.
She was warm; as warm as the warmth that was growing in his heart being in her vicinity.
"Good morning," he greeted. Her smile grew wider under his touch.
"Good morning, love."
He tried to imagine the way her green eyes lit up, how the golden specks glowed under the sun and how the lines around her eyes deepened. She must have had a few more freckles on her face from the sun and there were probably a few lines drawn by age across her skin now. He lost his sight a few years ago, but he could still picture her smile; though it was getting hard to retain that image in his mind.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" she asked in earnest, smoothing the lines between his furrowed eyebrows.
"Just you," he answered honestly and relaxed, "I love you."
"I love you too."

My take on what it felt like
The day we met. The day my soul yearned for something more than coffee and sleep. My angel laughed, I'm pretty sure yours did too. Because while you loved her, I started falling for you. We were just friends and that's all we could ever be. I convinced myself of that lie and lived in denial even though there were such subtle yet obvious signs. Like when we'd finish each other's sentences like I'd finish your food, or when you held me by my sleeve and pulled me through a crowded room. There were so many times that time slowed down like when you'd call me by my name, or when you'd remember something that I never expected you to. Then there were moments when you made time stop. Moments like when you told me I was beautiful, when you'd compliment my smile, when we'd talk about the future, when you sang Taylor Swift way off key to cheer me up. And when you hugged me. God I swear time stopped when you hugged me. Every time our hands brushed, or when I catch your gaze from across the room, I know you notice it too. But we're still best friends. I guess two years doesn't take one far. Even though we walk away with bits of each other's soul and we know it. Even though you keep my bucket list in your notes app and I keep your promises in my locket. And this laughter rings in the silence of our unspoken confessions while I pretend to ignore it.
