Emotional eating, Mindful eating, Addiction, Self-awareness, Healthy habits.
Emotional eating can be a difficult habit to break, often leading to feelings of guilt, shame, and frustration. In "Breaking the Cycle: Dr. Gabor Mate on How to Control Emotional Eating," renowned physician and addiction expert Dr. Gabor Mate provides practical strategies for overcoming the urge to eat in response to emotional triggers. Drawing on his years of experience working with patients struggling with addiction and emotional eating, Dr. Mate explains the underlying psychological and physiological factors that contribute to emotional eating and offers tools for addressing them. Through a combination of mindfulness practices, self-awareness exercises, and practical tips for healthier eating habits, Dr. Mate empowers readers to take control of their emotional eating patterns and make lasting changes towards a healthier relationship with food. Whether you're struggling with overeating, binge eating, or simply looking to gain more insight into your relationship with food, "Breaking the Cycle" offers a compassionate and evidence-based approach to emotional wellness.

The power of words to control our emotions can be therapeutic to our mental health;
✅ “I'm here for you.”
✅ “You are not alone.”
✅ “You are worthy and deserving.”
✅ “You don't have to apologize.”
✅ “There is treatment available to you…”
✅ “You are strong!.”

I suffer from bipolar disorder. There are times that I experienced cyclical remission through music and motivational inspirational speech I was able to survive every stage of my cyclical depression. Inside Serene is my alter ego - my trusted friend a gatekeeper of my pandora's box of mindfulness that helps me overcome mental struggles.

" We must be willing to encounter darkness and despair when they come up and face them, over and over again if need be, without running away or numbing ourselves in the thousands of ways we conjure up to avoid the unavoidable". - By Jon Kabat-Zinn

I love your work - and - it's also worth noting that Buddha was from a very wealthy family - so he had an abundance mindset throughout his childhood - and he left his child and his wife in the middle of the night to pursue his Enlightenment - I don't know what eating habits his abandoned child had. Either way I need to eat more mindfully ❤️ thank you ⚡️

I can understand this very much, my Parents left me home alone most of the time and they were at the bar before I got home from school from the 2nd grade up. I stress ate ,I was lonely and was needing help with my homework, I couldn't go anywhere and I couldn't have a friend come over to study with. So I did bad in school, struggling to do better and eventually gave up,I weighed 350lbs at the age of 17 ,Junior year, my Mom was ashamed of me and she had a Lawyer draw up papers so I could get gastroplasty surgery done. I had Surgery and in less than a year I lost 175 lbs. Nothing but food and I was learning how to cook and bake and would make cake and stuff home alone. It was fine as long as I cleaned up

Great lecture and as always such a helpful information, but besides trauma we also have to check for thyroid issues , parasites , bacteria , regulate our immune system and test for metal intoxication . This all affects our endocrine system and and has a lot to do with the trauma response in the organs and how infested we become due to a weak immune system that’s also related to trauma and the constant daily stress we are all in . Detoxing the body eating a high grass fed diet and walking away from processed foods are very effective techniques to heal over eating even if the trauma has not been addressed just yet . Oh also radiation from technology like our phones did regulate our insulin levels and it’s leading society to have insulting resistance that’s also linked to over eating and most of the time put in to the category of “ stress eating “ or trauma response .

I think childhood trauma is a partial issue, but i think its the pervasive use of sugar in our food. The food pyramid pushed us to eat carbohydrates as well as the addition of sugar in everything we eat.

Western Civilization is not to blame. It's the victim. Corporations, media, government and oligarchs are to blame.

Rice is one of the boring food taste to me. I love the concept that food fills so many exterior needs unmet or not. I don't think my Mother ever ate slowly but gobbled food and went back to cleaning up before our family left the table. I never got a chance to ask her about it. I learned to eat fast,which was mindlessly done.

Thanks for sharing this great talk. Does anyone know what presentation or workshop this excerpt is from? Also wondering what book Gabor Mate is reading from.
