Now, all these years later it still remains true, but somewhere along the road she fell in love too. The girl never had the courage to admit her ever growing feelings because the thought of their friendship breaking was too much, and now she never could.
She fought hard to hold back her tears as she watched another girl walk up the aisle to promise forever to the only person she has ever loved. She lost her chance.
It became more and more apparent that they were only meant to stay friends in this life. Lovers was something that couldnât ever be considered, possibly in another life but not in this one.
After all, friendship is the greatest kind of love you can offer someone.

"Are you coming?"
She took his hand. "Ofcourse."
They walked through their forest of insecurities and doubts. The bitterness and the struggle. Together, they were stronger than they had been.
He lifted her up. Her spirit soaring free of burden.
She soothed his wary heart. A place to rest and break. Reprieve.
Yet their forest grew and grew. Thorns and thistles. Fallen trees block paths of opportunity. Rain and thunder and smeared mascara.
This burden of circumstance, he carried it on his back. It crushed him. "I can't provide for you. Not like you deserve."
She fell with him, lying in the mud. "I don't want the perfect life. I don't want the perfect you." She dusted the burden from him, leaving it behind in their past. "I want our life. I want this life. I want the you, you truly are. And not even a bit more."
The storm didn't stop for them. But they endured.
She stood, and held her hand out to him. "Are you coming?"
He took her hand. "Ofcourse."

âYou know, they say best friends by fate... I guess that's why weâre still like this after years.â Staring at the mesmerizing view of the cliff, she couldnât help but blurt out. He nodded his head in response, the words aching in his heart a little. A beautiful Sunday afternoon to have a picnic. With her. Her. The only name his heart ever skipped for. Years passed but he knew she did not return his feelings. He knew itâs been years and he had to finally let go of whatâs in his heart. He disregarded the heart stabbing words heard and smiled at her. He did not want to risk this friendship for something he could get over. Well, thatâs what he says every year. He watched as tiny strands of her hair flew around due to the spring breeze, what she would think as messy, but to him, there was only one word to describe her - perfect. An afternoon lunch picnic soon turned into tea break, then into dinner. The pink hues from the sunset shone on her face, the natural glow on her face seemed even more obvious by now. His heart skipped a beat yet again, just like how it did years ago. He knew he had to confess sooner or later, for this once infatuation had turned into a crush, a crush turned into love. A lifelong commitment he knew he would participate in, but did she?
He pulled his hands into hers, pushing away his inner voice who was already squealing by now. Their eyes met, melting into one another. âWill you be mine?â he blurted out unconsciously, regretting the minute he did. Her face flashed with different emotions all at once. At first it was confusion. Then surprise. Then it finally dawned upon her why he had treated her differently all these years. Her tears welled up, overflowing down her cheeks. She nodded slowly, then vigorously, the only word coming out of her mouth being âYes!â They clutched each other in their hands, both finally waiting for this day. â...and lovers by choice.â He smiled at her brightly, before he enveloped her in the biggest hug yet, watching the beautiful sunset together.

as he looked at her deeply in her brown eyes, she just smiled, longingly. perhaps it wasn't for them to be together, but they were sure it was love. after all, 5 years of friendship isn't just something you can make happen in a glance.
"if i said that i had fallen in love, what would you say?" she asked.
"i would probably ask you who is this person, and if being with them makes you happy." he chuckled.
she smiled. the features of his soft face have been traced deeply inside her mind. over and over again. as his eyes looked right back into hers, he smiled.
"you're so beautiful." she stated out loud.
"oh yeah?" hints of laughter made it's way out of his lovely lips, "thanks, beauty."
she just laughed. after all, he wasn't hers to embrace, wasn't hers to kiss, nor was he hers to love. but she does, anyway.
"i think i'm in love." she said, "but i feel so lost because the person i love is in love with someone else." her eyes traveled to the ground.
"well, it doesn't hurt to start off as friends, you know?" he said, unknowingly.
"that's the thing," she sighed, "we're already such great friends, yet it feels so far to reach out to them."
he chuckled, and ruffled her hair, "seeing my bestfriend feel so lost is such fun."
she sighed, and looked back up to him with lonely eyes and a longing smile, "perhaps that's just it." she whispered.
he turned around and smiled at the brown haired lover of his, as she made her way to him. his hands were ready to pull her into his embrace.
"perhaps, we were friends first, and lovers second." she smiled, looking at his happiness, "but i suppose, it's not counted if it's just me, now does it?" her whispers sounded so distant as their laughter started to get louder.
she got up, and ruffled his hair, before waving her hand, "i'm going home first. don't stay out too late." she stated, before taking her items and walking away.
his eyes trailed over her footsteps, as he smiled longingly.
'but perhaps, this is what lovers are' he thought to himself, before letting go of the brunette. 'if only i was as brave as you are, love.'
- before yall attack me, the boy is in love with the bestie, but he was already in a relationship with someone, before he noticed his feelings. lets just hope as soon as he realizes his strong feelings, he actually told her that he loves her too and get together :')
