I would argue on the 'treat everyone with respect' concept, as giving respect to everyone makes it lose it's value. Respect is earned. I treat everyone respectfully, if someone loses that; then I simply don't acknowledge them. Treating someone respectfully is the lack of disrespect combined with politeness. As to treating the CEO the same as the janitor, they're both working; but I avoid derelicts and beggars. I knew someone who gave to a beggar for having his family (supposedly) out there begging with him, he said he respected the hustle. I say that's no way to raise a child and both the friend and the beggar had less of my respect than they would otherwise.
When I give someone respect, its a big deal. As it should be.
