Body horror must be the most primal kind of horror. All the other horror genres usually are about rationally ominous things, like the unknown, death, monsters, trauma, impostors, powerlessness or creatures with powers beyond us. But the most used way of conveing horror has always been blood. Body horror at its most basic state.
We are all shackled by a body, and we all are alive because of that body. It is so close to our identity they sometimes are indiscernible from one another. Life itself can be reduced to bodies recreating themselves.
There's no need for concepts in body horror. It speaks for itself, directly to our core.

body horror, to me, is actually a way that I express my insecurities.
I struggle with body dysmorphia and just general social anxiety. I also frequent having dreams where I look in the mirror and look horrifying. Things like my skin getting too light, my eyes looking like ice, my freckles getting bigger and making strange shapes on my face, and even getting so skinny that I can play with the disks between my vertebrae. I feel and almost see myself through music like this.
And I know it sounds unhealthy. I truly believe it helps me though. Just thinking about the monster I am in my mind and then getting up and seeing myself in the mirror, it's like I can actually see myself. I can express my insecurities by listening to body horror and superficially release them. It is the best, even if some people find it scary. Body horror has been my therapy for my body dysmorphia
(btw!! I only listen to body horror by myself, I wouldn't recommend it around anyone else)
((also I'm okay, music in general is a gift that has saved me from myself))

Body horror is such a deep distress within your soul while reading. It feels like seam thing is crawling within your body. Most horror touches things we fear, the possibilities of otherworldly things or situations. People trying to escape as long as possible. However body horror is unescapable and festers within you. Itβs just so different and such a deep routed fear. I think thatβs why so many people find it so creepy or weird, because itβs so much different then normal horror,
