" i moved to rural alabama and im kinda regretting it because a decapitated deer crawled out of the woods and now coming towards me " is a deeply unappreciated aesthetic

Even though deer are so common, they in many cultures represent innocence and nature. So, seeing the deer begin to shift and change to something horrific beyond human imagination leaves a feeling of unimaginable horror of the unknown and fear of what will happen next. This feeling of something that is out of your control, like a deer being hunted. Like sitting on the patio watching a tornado from afar. Seeing a car in the woods, sitting underneath a tree in the brush. Seeing eyes watching you from an empty building. What ever happens will now be out of your control. The puppeteer has lost his strings. You are now no different from the deer changing and shifting, hunted by the shadows. A player of a game with no rules, a spectator of the chaos. What will you do?

Down in the Appalachians, some say that there’s peculiar deer that wander round at night. With their forward facing eyes, fanged mouths of sharp teeth, and hunger for flesh. Claws for feet, and necks longer than usual, folks call them “Notadeer.” These beasts are predatory and pack hunters, scavengin’ any carcasses they find. If you approach any funny lookin’ deer at night, you might as well pray, god will see you soon.

I live in the midwest and this is exactly how our small towns feel like half of the towns are haunted or been subjected to paranormal procedures and its freaky

i immediately love this playlist so much. i was born and raised in the suburbs of Georgia and this is so strangely nostalgic. Distant country music playing every Saturday at the local bar, confrontations with deer acting strange. Big roaring pickup trucks tearing past your window. Creepy old men shooting off fireworks blackout drunk. Big yellow decaying signs condemning people to hell. Churches on every corner. The buzz of cicadas, the smell of fox, hearing coyotes howl. Big dogs running down the street after escaping. The walkable little brick cities being stuck in the 90s. This is so home and i love it.

As someone who lives in the woods, has at least 12 (known) abandoned family cemeteries nearby, and down the road some old Native American property where some unexplained things have been seen (And I choose to ignore this so I can sleep at night)…. This is the perfect playlist.

mmm I love the "I'm in rural america and my mom came out of the woods naked after she was missing for several days but she's pale, she doesn't speak and she smells like rotting flesh" aesthetic

The chemistry of Mississippi Delta sediments and water make it so organisms decay much faster in it compared to peat bogs. This combined with the way the river changes it course dramatically every couple thousands of years is why we have such little fossil evidence along the river!

My dad and I hiked a good portion of the Appalachian Trail one summer, and a couple of the small towns/hollers had this eerie, unsettling vibe to them. Places with hardly any people, run down buildings, foggy mornings, old fashioned revival churches on the hill... It was definitely something. 😬

I'm a southerner and i live in a town of about 600 people. I live on the outskirts. I've been have what I'll call visions since I was 5. I've found human gravestones in the woods around my home. I've found a pile of deer skulls in the clearing of the woods. This playlist describes exactly how I feel.

“Two weeks ago a pair of hunters were declared missing after roughly 72 hours of no contact with their respective associates and next of kin. We found their bodies just this morning hanging from a willow tree down the creek with their eyes gouged out and smiles on their faces. No signs of a struggle nor distress were found during the autopsy, it’s like they just floated with ropes into the trees. I don’t need an upstart city slicker fed telling me something’s off with this town, I am fully aware the deer stare at you weird kid.”

na bc as someone who lives literally right in the middle of a forest, next to an abandoned mineshaft that literally looks endless and feels off, either its a portal or im a fuckin schitzo, also theres a pool of foggy water that me and my friend found a LITERAL human skull in the water, but I've looked EVERYWHERE to find it again, i memorized the route and I've looked Everywhere, it had these unique, vibrant red leafed trees surrounding it, it was like the deep crimson of fresh blood and we found it on the night of the full moon, ever since then though, it's been hard to tell if its just a weird dream that we both had, theres also a bunch of abandoned houses around the forest that a BUNCH of people report seeing skinwalkers around there, also one time i had this crazy ass drea where i was surrounded by deer in a forest, and the one in the front was a wendigo and he said "you have our blood, you have our body" then I woke up so the melatonin goin crazy fr ps- theres also a shitton of Fae areas in my forest too

I moved from rural AL to NM. One thing that hasn’t changed is that bone chilling feeling of hearing the coyotes laughing at night when they are about to kill something. It always sounds like there’s so many, even if it’s only a few individuals. Honestly, coyotes are under appreciated eldritch horrors.

I used to live in a fairly suburban part of Florida, Constant sounds Flat roads and swamps, 2 years ago we took a vacation to the Georgia mountains and fell in love, A couple months ago we permanently moved into our house It's in a valley and Although our neighbor our neighbors aren't as far away as we would like them to be we are still pretty isolated, My bedroom is on the second floor and every single night I hear that rhythmic tapping on the glass... Did I mention there's also deer? Deer everywhere.
