I'm 48 and I'm very intrigued by this Shoegaze genre. Youtube has been recommending me shoegaze review videos and I finally decided to listen to some. The first 3 songs so far are amazing. I was afraid it was going to sound too harsh and unpleasant but nope. I'm not the kind of person to listen to badly recorded unprofessional sounding music since I produce and mix myself. I'm also an audiophile but this is very pleasing and familiar. I'll explain why it sounds so familiar to everyone.
It's the sound of being just outside the concert hall, vocals don't carry well but guitars and drums carry farther. It's distorted and distant. There is not much stereo separation. It's like hanging out with friends or someone outside the concert hall, to talk, because they are more important than the concert. That's the emotion you get from this. It should be familiar to anyone who's been to a concert and went outside during the music. Other reason is the songs always seem to be the kind that gets the crowd into a trance like good vibe. Melodies are romantic and inviting. Everything about this sound is warm and inviting, almost like a good memory.

The term ‘shoegaze’ came about in the UK Press, because when bands played, they were often seen starring down at their feet. From 1987 to 1993, the ‘scene’ was amazing. So many great bands were about. Listened to this more than the more popular ‘Madchester ’ scene growing up. Good to see it’s still going strong.
