Statistically, someone WILL die on this cruise... I figured it would be safe to bet simple heart failure from old age (TBH not the worst place to spend your final days), but after seeing that the unlimited drink package is included with the voyage, I may add alcohol poisoning to my list of "cause of death" guesses.

There's two sensible target markets I can think of for a really long cruise, retirees with a chunk of money saved up, and rich gap year kids, but those two groups are probably going to want very different things from a cruise and I'm not sure even the cruise company know which they were aiming for, let alone the customers

My bets for the list of catastrophes by the time the cruise ends:
1 baby born at sea
3 visible pregnancies
5 divorces/ family dramas that change the family dynamic forever
6 ‘waves’ of norovirus
2 separate covid outbreaks
1 employee goes missing and this is buried/unreported for 2 years
*Edit: the ship is already flooding

i'm VERY interested in how much of this is going to become self-fulfilling prophecy because of the dynamic of people onboard posting to tiktok and the tiktok audiences treating it like a reality show. the "audience" has a direct line into the situation and if they're all expecting something drastic to happen, someone looking for clicks or who's just bored will act accordingly. people will get into drama because drama is expected. it's fascinating how much the lines are blurred and how it's already become such a spectacle

Fun fact: at the beginning of the global lockdown in 2020 there was a round the world cruise that basically got stranded because all ports were closed. In a wild twist, the cruise had no COVID and had no way to contract it because they were essentially isolated.
So for about a month in March/April one of the only places you could still be social and go to dinner or the movies or the theatre or to a pool or gym was on this ship.
It was a wild story to follow at the time

My hot cruise tip: if you get an inside cabin (no window) buy and bring a sunlight alarm clock. They have noise like a normal clock but also slowly increase in brightness until your wake up time. It really helps you feel more awake when there's light in your room rather than waking up in pitch darkness. You can take amazing naps though in an inside cabin.

as someone who did a 9 month deployment on an aircraft carrier, i can confirm that you get stir crazy, you miss your home and bed, you run out of things to do (get bored of watching movies or reading books or whatnot), you get tired of your companions and get into fights and then make up because you live and work with them for 9 months straight. Oh, and we only had 3 port calls because COVID restrictions prevented most. I honestly dont think I could do a 9 months pleasure cruise though, because at least on my deployment I still "went to work" every day (except sundays); Like it sort of vibed like I imagine the work from home crowd felt, except reverse, I lived at work. My office was also my living room. My coworkers were my roommates. I went stir crazy even with working 8 or so hours a day. I couldnt imagine having full days where I have to figure out what to do and entertain myself.
