I wonder if the theme behind Celine's song is somehow inspired by the late 70' Quebecoise opera rock named Starmania. This same show was produced in Paris in 1988. Keep in mind that she recorded a bunch of songs from the musical in her album "Dion chante Plamondon" (the composer's last name) in 1991.

Hmmm..while on the surface, it does talk about joining heroes on a journey to the stars, at its core, the song is about the universal desire to explore, to be free, and to live out one's dreams. it's about not wanting to be left behind as others embark on exciting journeys, whether those are literal travels to new places or metaphorical journeys of personal growth and discovery...

It's quite speculative to assume that Céline Dion wouldn't have become a super star without her ESC victory. ABBA in fact failed quite a bit with their next six single releases after Waterloo in Europe (most notably on the important UK charts), but gained momentum after slowly growing a fanbase in Australia, New Zealand and Central Europe and they eventually climbed the charts in the UK and everywhere in Europe with S.O.S. and Mamma Mia. Their ESC victory might have helped them with establishing connections within the music industry outside of Sweden, but a year and a half following Waterloo they were generally considered a one-hit-wonder.

When Céline began to hit big singing in English I used to think that she was actually Swiss due to her Eurovision win in 1988 (back them somehow I didn't remember being mentioned that she was Canadian) and it was only around her The Colour Of My Love album that I learned that she was actually from Canada and hadn't any ties to Switzerland beyond her Eurovision participation.
