Personally I think the La Zarra bit is overly critical. A lot of her humor goes over people's heads and the French media was basically attacking her the whole time leading up to rhe competition. She definitely still has some diva attitude but things have been overblown. Anyways I can understand the french delegations thinking processes regardless.

You got it wrong about the symbol La Zarra showed, she never said it was to do with Canada, it's actually used in Morroco (she's part Morrocan), that the gesture she showed means exactly what she said. And it isn't a middle finger. It was clearly her turning her hand while showing with two fingers a sort of gathering motion. I don't mean to be rude but this was easy to research and precisely the type of sensionalist journalism that made a big deal of the gesture in the first place. It was still an arrogant gesture, especially with her facial expression she clearly seemed to be saying she's dissapointed, but it was not showing a middle finger to the audience.

France 2 has just published the audience scores for Eurovision 2024. This year, Eurovision had an audience share of 36.8%, an increase of around +10% with 5.3 million spectators, with even a peak of 7.6 million during Slimane's performance. These are historic figures according to the channel.
New, it will be interesting to see if these figures will be maintained or deflated the following year.
Another good analysis, great job

Hi, just discovered your channel and love your analysis! As a Frenchie, I do think it is spot on! Slimane has the almost impossible job of making Eurovision popular in France and I fear French people won’t accept anything below top 10 from him…
La Zarra’s gesture was a “toz”, it is not canadian but comes from the arabic vocabulary which can mean disappointment and “I don’t care” among other things 😊 (not an expert though)

I think the Anouk theory is spot on, and I don't think France is aiming for a win. But, I also think that they might end up very very high with the juries and you never know, with the right staging and running order, the televote might just swing enough votes his way to end up on top anyway.
So happy to see the return of Overthinking Eurovision and quietly hoping for a video on Belgium's entry and the weird experience of seeing multiple people hype it as a potential winner.
