My personal opinion on ship cruises is that you have a wonderful opportunity to explore where you want to stay for a longer period. Let's say, you find out that you like Sicily very much, you can book a two week vacation afterwards in order to check out the island.
One day is definitely only enough to explore a city or an area ... but you can get a good first impression.

The ship looked pretty decent, clean and modern. Those problems with being crowded and standing in lines waiting ect. is nothing unuasual on cruises, unless you book the premium class trips. Also the rush during city visits is the norm - its expensive to stay in a horbour for long. And also people want to see many different places during one or two weeks, so they cant stop for longer in one harbour.
The food... oh well, if you always find some acceptable option its not too bad.
I heard some horror stories about all inclusive hotels in Turkey and Greece, which were not much cheaper but a lot worse. Dirt and cockroaches and a noise and bad food...

Wow!! Thanks for the info!! Looks like this would be heaven for me coming from a military life style. Looks like the food is way better than what the US Navy is accustomed to and the US Navy is fed better than the US Army infantry. I grew up as a kid in a Navy family with my Uncle who was a Chief Petty Officer on an aircraft carrier in California and seen what US Navy Sailors lived in and ate, way better than being a Paratrooper and Infantryman. I remember seeing a ship anchored in Barcelona back in 2007 when I visited there, is this the same cruise line? The prices looked great too. I think about doing this cruise in the future. Much better than what the US Navy and Marines who are on aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships cruising the Mediterranean Sea.šššš¤£š¤£š¤£

I did a very similar cruise with MSC in January (Barcelona, Marseille, Genova, La Spezia, Napoli, Palma de Mallorca) for 55ā¬/night as a solo cruiser. For the price alone, you would easily spend 30+ā¬ per meal if you eat a 3/4-course meal in Italy at a touristy area.
To me, cruising is 50% about the ship, 50% about the destination, which is why you cannot expect to have a deep, immersive experience compared to staying on land, but just a gentle introduction or a relaxing re-visit of a place.
I cruise when it is good value for money, just like some people like a cheap all-inclusive beach resort in Turkish Riviera or Egypt in winter. But with cruising, you get the added benefit of seeing new place every day.
