I live 35 miles from the Myrtles, and I looked into the history, because I found the ghost stories fascinating. Even tho I believe the story of Chloe the slave was invented to entertain visitors, there are people around here, some I know really well, who swear to have seen ghosts, not only at the Myrtles, but also at other Louisiana plantations.

Just spent the night at the Myrtles Plantation. No ghosts or anything unusual, not even from those sleeping in the main house (I stayed in a cabin). Beautiful place. Great tour guides. Mr. Sterling renamed the property The Myrtles because of the many crepe myrtles in the back yard of the main house, which are still there.

Can you do a video on the Old Charleston Prison? It was built in colonial times where it had terrible conditions. The prison was used during the civil war as a POW collection center. The prison had a maximum capacity of 500, but over 5000 prisoners were imprisoned. I’ve gone through the jail on a ghost tour, and I’ve never felt a feeling like I felt there. I can’t explain it, I just felt like I was dying

One thing becomes apparent when hearing these stories, that this house has been the site of countless human tragedies and that it is seriously haunted by ghosts of numerous periods in history. ( I somehow do not see the logic in house owners inventing ghost stories to help selling the house - the exact opposite would seem more probable !). Finally, I also hope that the souls apparently still residing in "The Myrtels" will some day find eternal peace in the afterlife.

The version I heard was that Chloe was punished for listening in by having her ear cut off and by working in the exterior kitchen instead of inside the house- where she used to work. Supposedly she wanted to gain favor by poisoning the family and then curing them, and being their hero - but she misjudged the amount of poison and killed the wife and kids and so the other slaves hanged her…

I live two hours from the Myrtle's near New Orleans. I have slept in several bed and breakfasts there over the years. I have visited the Myrtle's several times and have seen the mirror in question, the mark is still there. Very scary place, beautiful, frightening, sad all emotions hit you in this place. If you visit, tour the house in the evening or at night, it's awesome.

I’ve been to the plantation before, and I have a photo of my husband and I out front with a ghost behind us in the picture. It’s really cool.

I'm from Louisiana and The Myrthles Plantation is known to everyone who grew up here. In the version I learned it wasn't about vengeance at all, quite the opposite, The master was having an affair with Chole and she was in love with him, in Louisiana the practice of real life voodoo was about using plants to make drugs and poisons and Chole hatched the plan to make his children sick and nurse them back to health so the master would love her back, but she killed them accidently. Also her execution was being hung, then her body being pulled apart by ropes tied to horses and then burned.

There's a story that a mirror had flown off the wall and hit the owner at the time. There's also a ghost of the grounds keeper that was murdered on the grounds after being robbed in the 1920's. Unsolved mysteries that a great job of doing the story on Myrtle's plantation back when Robert Stack was hosting. And that Myrtles plantation was originally an Indian burial ground before it was turned into a plantation.

I appreciate you guys taking the constructive criticism well. Whether ghosts are real or not these people were real, and they deserve to have their story told as it is. History, including the history being made in the present, can be more horrible than any supernatural phenomena. We can’t know for certain the true story, but we can provide the possibilities.

My brother took an awesome photo here. I’m the photo you can see a woman wearing an antebellum dress sitting across from a civil war soldier in the back of the property at a rod iron table. It is creepy bc you can see the hat the soldier is wearing but not his head

i am born and raised in b.r. the capital of louisiana and going to my grandparents house near natchez mississippi we would pass myrtles all the time. just passing it would give me chills as a child although im sure it was caused by me already being told about it being haunted. as an adult it looks and feels like any other house. lol happy to see someone telling the story.

The apparitions could be some other deceased unknown occupants or a poltergeist taking the form/forms of whatever gets it the most energy.
