But how do you deal with the burn out when you *can't*. You can't afford to take time off from work because if you don't work you don't have money to live. You can't take a break from the housework because the house will turn into a landfill if you don't. You can't take a break from caring for your family because there is no one else to take care of them. I just feel disconnected from Life ItSelf, let alone work or family or whatever. I feel like I'm nothing more than a ghost attached to a cog in a machine and nothing has shaken that, or if it does shake off, it doesn't last for long.

this is me right now. I'm exhausted mentally and emotionally. I'm forgetful and panicky. I cannot take time off work only I pay the bills. I literally just sit and stare at the wall for hours trying to process things.

I used to feel extremely burnt out from Long haul Trucking, it was to the point where I would quit about every 6 months and take two months off, then I found a company that got me home every weekend and it was amazing how the burnout kind of just went away.

Sense of failure and self-doubt. Feeling helpless, trapped, and defeated.

Cautionary tale: Burnout caused me to have a psychotic breakdown when I was 29. Got me the help I needed, got my diagnosis, but it didn’t have to be that way. Could have gotten help sooner, asked for it sooner, been educated on the signs and symptoms of my conditions, etc. If you’re feeling this way, take care of yourself. you don’t need to break to grow stronger; you’re not a femur.

I felt burnt out at the end of my 20s cos i was working too much and all the time. I switched to part time for 3 years and used the extra time to exercise, read, get new hobbies etc and. was so much happier into my 30s. Take a break and reward yourself !

It’s especially hard when you’re experiencing burnout and workplace exploitation at the same time. It’s hard to know where personal responsibility begins and ends in this case. Complicating matters, “self care” has become a rote solution to complex interpersonal problems.

The average time to recover major burnout is two years. It's been three years for me and I feel way better but not fully recovered. A lingering ptsd remains and I feel the longer you wait to address burnout the longer the recovery time, don't ignore the signs as I did.

I would like to see burnout syndrome talked about in regard to personal health decline, dealing with narcissistic people, and caretaking of other critically ill people in your life. Kyle, Can you make that happen to provide video topic? I've been questioning if it is depression and lazy on my part.

exhaustion (even after holidays) lost of connection (who cares about this job anyway?) cynicism (internally roll your eyes every time somebody shares positivity about your job) this must be addressed or the person will have mental and health issues.

In 2009 I was an IT Director for a private college in the Bay Area. My boss, the CFO was fired for political reasons, and because he hired me, they were trying to make my life miserable so I'd quit. I had been working 12-18 hour days for months because things were so screwed up. I went for an annual physical, and my doctor asked me how work was going. I started crying and couldn't stop. He called in a Psychologist, and I was put on disability. A few months later, I was "laid off" while on disability. I was just so happy to be free that I didn't care about the legality. It wasn't the workload that was the issue. It was the fact that I was working my ass off, and not only wasn't it appreciated by senior leadership, but they were actively trying to undermine me. If you want the best work from your teams, ensure you care for them and that they feel cared for. Burnout is real.

"...connected to something bigger than yourself." When I worked as a nurse this helped me get through some tough days. Also, being with a good crew. Nevertheless, burnout eventually took it's toll. I feel so bad for those in health care at this period of history.

I'm truly sorry you have Crohn's. One of my best friends has it, and it's shocking how much pain/exhaustion it causes. It's as bad as endometriosis/adenomyosis pain wise, and then risks of malnutrition, and difficulty with private matters.... I can't begin to imagine how much the illness must stress you, on top of dealing with symptoms. Thank you for sharing that you go through this, it makes it easier for us other disabled people to speak about our experiences.
