TAKE THE DARKROOM EDITING CHALLENGE AND WIN:

thisguyedits.com/darkroom (Click the "Commercial Plan" Free Trial) - Rules and Instructions further down...

Take the 60 sec. editing challenge and win from a boatload of prizes: over $3000,-. (Be sure to read the tip at the bottom to increase your chance of winning.)

For this editing challenge, I partnered with Epidemic Sound, which is a premium library with 30,000 music tracks and 60,000 sound effects.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE ME when I tell you that sound is the most important part of editing? Take this challenge and find out for yourself. Can you engage an audience with just audio?

DO THIS: Get a 30-Day Free Trial COMMERCIAL PLAN from Epidemic Sound using this link: thisguyedits.com/darkroom. (Click the "Commercial Plan" Free Trial)

Download some music tracks and sound effects, feel free to cancel the account once you are done (you still get 30 days full access). Start designing your story. (Tip: You may want to also record some dialog or voice over to help with the story. Think about a concept where it would make sense that we don't see anything).

I want to pose this editing challenge to you with a chance to win the new DJI Mini Mavic (Fly More Kit), 6- and 3-month plans to the Epidemic Commercial Plan, free lifetime memberships to the Go-To Editor course, Screenbar Plus by BenQ and some cool merch from the new This Guy Edits line.

But what is the exact challenge?

Since we are focusing on audio, I'm asking you to edit a simple scene. Design a 60 sec (or less) film with just sound. No picture! Just sound.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. It is not required to buy epidemic sounds. But I will judge each submission based only on storytelling AND sound design.

Round 2 of submissions is open now until:
July 15th for procrastinators (11.59pm PST)

PRIZES:

I will pick five winners from each round and one grand prize winner that wins the drone (So a total of eleven winners).

PLUS EVERYONE WHO SUBMITS A CUT (WIN OR LOSE) WILL GET A $150 OFF COUPON FOR THE GO-TO EDITOR COURSE 2.0 (thegotoeditor.com/)

Grand Prize: Weighing under 250 grams, Mavic Mini is almost as light as the average smartphone.
In the United States and Canada, you can fly Mavic Mini without the need to register your drone with the government. (Fly More Pack with extra batteries, case, and propeller, $499 value)

"A story should have three elements: who wants what, why right now, and what happens if he doesn't get it." An important take away from this video, of course, along with the great tips. Thank you so much, Sven!

I just came across this channel today. I am five videos into it. These are what I didn't know I wanted to learn. I would totally be too bashful to enter any sort of competition.

In my opinion the submission with the daughter and the mother locked in by someone who believes they have the corona virus is meant to be portraying the view (more or less) of the mother. You can hear the daughter speaking to what I believe is the audience, so the mother who obviously is not conscious. So in my opinion it does qualify very much! But thats just who I see it.

Great to see there aren't that many submissions, so there's actually a bit of a chance of winning failing to tell a proper story :D (I should rename my channel) To be fair about the titles though: Since we submitted via YouTube I didn't assume you would download the files and lose the name of the channel that uploaded. You could have specified that in the rules for clarity, otherwise there's little incentive to put your name in the title (since it shouldn't matter to the competition itself).

I am no editor and wonÄt become one. But I really like your videos and tips. Even if I cannot make any practical use of them it helps me to understand why I like something or don't like something. And it made me understand better that I do not relly care about the effects or how an actor is presenting their lines. I am german and watch my movies in german so what I experience in terms of actors speech performance is ( as far as I can tell ) the almost best one possible. But I was coming up with a story that I cannot tell because I lack the tools, time and skill with a video. Maybe somebody likes the idea and is hereby free to use it. We are in a dark room and our protagonist is wearing a blindfold. Asking his partner what she came up with since this is the first time they do that kind of play. But nobody answers.... he does not think of anything bad....thinks she is teasing him. Then we hear only in our left ear a whisper "I finally found you. It really was not easy...." ( I don't know if this should be a man or a woman ). Our protagonist immediately tenses us, maybe we begin to hear his heartbeat. "Please, I can expl.." muffling sounds... Gaffer tape gets unwound( is that the right word) "Shhhh...." she says *footspeps going around us*..... "I will take my time with you" We hear the well known sound of a baseball bat being swung near our face. "Lets start with your knees..." And thats it. Don't know why I am even writing this but I somewhat felt like it.
