This song is the feeling of falling in love with your best friend(she/her) during a summer haze. It’s playing with sparklers at a concert by the bay and watching the sun set by their side. It’s the fear when you whisper “it’s you” into their ear and they look at you in confusion. It’s your feet hitting the earth as you run so you don’t have to suffer their response. It’s when you get a letter three weeks later the day you return from summer camp telling you they don’t feel the same. It’s when they stop talking to you and you cry yourself to sleep every night wondering why? Why you couldn’t just stay silent. It’s the healing only to go back to school and have it feel like nothings changed. It’s standing by their side while they flirt with another girl that you know will break their heart. It’s the pain as you smile at their relationship to stop yourself from crying. It’s when their lover turns them against you because they think your competition. It’s losing all you friends because this person believes your trying to steal her from them. It’s when everyone stops caring. You have nothing left to give but they don’t understand that. You try to ask what’s wrong but all they do is glare as if ‘you know what you did’. It’s when you move on. You hope no one notices your distance or the pain on your face when you think about sparklers and sunsets. It having 4 years of heart ripped away from you in the span of 3 months. It’s when you enter through the high school doors only to find that old friend waiting for you. You smile… they wave and you walk down the hallway together trying to forget whatever happened. It’s holding them in your arms a month later when their girlfriend breaks up with them. It’s finally getting to say ‘I told you so’ as you both smile softly in noon day light. It’s going to their tree house and finally being okay after 2 long years. It’s realizing that you still love them… but that as long as their in your life, as long as their happy. Your ok. Because you don’t want to lose them again. -The great schism (this what this time in your lives was dubbed by the friend in this story)
