STOP Defending the Overwatch 2 Devs

As much as I love their passion for making fun games, how real they've kept it recently, Jared and Aaron's efforts in being transparent and honest, let's not forget the original plans for Overwatch in the first place.

Overwatch 2? Overwatch 3? Interesting path considering, Blizzard used to be the guys who would stick with their small library of titles and support them for years.

And now it's been over a week, I am slightly hopeful about the future of the game. But they'll have to do some serious heavy lifting, update after update, patch after patch. Good luck to them.

There is only one way you should be attacking Blizzard Developers with your wallet, by not paying for anything Blizzard or Activision.

The saddest thing (almost as sad as Diablo Immortal getting THAT much money) is the fact, that as rightly upset as a LOT of people are right now... at least HALF of them are still going to throw money at Activision when Diablo 4 comes out. If at least 51% of us got our shit together and stopped throwing money at them, they'd be FORCED to improve.

I'm disappointed in the players who let a mobile game make that kind of money, and killing the quality of games from that point forward. Edit: They knew a year before OW2 release that they were nixxing the campaign as we knew (and wanted) it. Yeah we'll still get crappy missions, so what? That's not what they advertised, it's not what we wanted. We've been playing (some of us buying passes) ever since in hopes of a great campaign update. They knew a year before the release. Could have said something at any time, but they knew it would have interrupted their income. It's sneaky and dishonest.

Iā€™ll never forgive them for killing OW1, I wish I could go back and play it again. As much problematic it often was, I remember saving money to buy it on my low spec PC, playing at low res without worries because it was just a great game, I loved it. Playing OW2 now feels pointless. I donā€™t want another F2P GaaS game.

I lowered my expectations for Blizzard a long time ago.

The devs lied to my face so many times. They're just as unethical as the executives.

People need to stop making the argument of 30+ heroā€™s. they donā€™t need to have all of them in the game from start. They can launch pve with a few and add more in the future.

But the devs ARE puppets. As ambitious as the promise was, it is doable with enough resources and manpower. Blizzard's track record is full of impossibly ambitious projects that became massive successes upon completion. They set the precedent of what was possible. When the higher ups refuse to give you the resources and time (look up how often they were forced to change gears to other projects and lost months of dev time, only for them to be cancelled as well) and sabotage your team, it is difficult to blame the devs. The only thing I can blame the devs for are working for the company to begin with. But that's the thing: Most of them HAVE left. They brag about "doubling the size of the team" but also "having to split resources thin" because their hires, although greater in number, all mostly starry eyed juniors. The higher ups kept making unreasonable demands, sabotaging progress and arrogantly let the old guard walk out as if they were replaceable by the deluge of juniors coming in. In a large scale creative project like this, they aren't. Hence why we have the alleged "double sized team" composed entirely of incompetent bootlickers. Can we really blame the devs that walked away from the cruel company? Or the new hires that are just excited to work for such a large company? No, the blame falls squarely on upper management. Please just stop supporting the company. It really isn't as hard as you think. Do not play their games. There are a million games out there made by actual competent companies that deserve your support. As the company crumbles, the devs can jump ship to better companies themselves (they get laid off randomly anyway).

There is no defense for people who knew that they weren't going to do what they promised before they sold Overwatch 2. At some point you have to take accountability for what you choose to work for. Sex scandals, ripping off customers with manipulative practices, no communication, disrespecting fans in public forums, racism, and lying were going on before this new Overwatch 2 scandal. The rot was always there and those we hold as heroes that left in recent years were there during the inception of a lot of these scandals that rocked Blizzard. I mean when does it become the responsibility of the person helping keep a toxic ship afloat? I mean we've known Blizz pays crappy for years if not decades and we still have to feel sorry for em?

Lead developers definitely should be held accountable. When I see "dont attack the devs" i think of the people coding and designing the game, not the decision makers. I consider them part of corporate once they reach lead status šŸ˜‚.

I've quit. I made the mistake of assuming things would get better for video games as a whole. I can't even count how many times I've been lied to and I still fall for this shit.

not played overwatch since they announced 2. Writing was on the wall years before that and OW2 was just a way to drive eyes back to them. I'm happy tho, made me go look at other games and now i have valorant and apex for my fps needs and ff14 for my pve needs. Enjoying all this fun overwatch content from youtubers!

im glad this community doesnt suck up and deal with it. when ow2 released i heard a lot of people on reddit responding to complaining people saying "its gaming industry now, it is how it is, they gotta make their money" and what a shit take is that. sit back and watch your favourite thing, your community fall apart. im glad people still refuse to throw dust in their eyes and forget about everything

The lesson here is: any large gaming company is a business first, which means they care about making money above anything else. Blizzard is no different. They sacrificed making a good game for a quick buck and scamming their fans.

I remember a lot of people would tell others to direct their anger at the publisher, not devs, whenever a game is poop. This is 2023, we have devs selling their soul for a quick buck and that's just EGS. I hope people would open their eyes and see that it's no longer just the decision of the publisher but rather both sides agreed to go in this direction. Now I'm not saying all devs are money hungry but it's increasingly clear that a great majority of them agreed and accepted the direction or else they would have left like Jeff did. Yes, every single one of them could have left so don't give me that "how would they feed their family if they quit?" bullcrap.

3:15 Itā€™s also insane to think they could get a game like borderlands with anything near the same polish, considering how long itā€™s taken for borderlands to evolve from 1 to 3 with all the game mechanics fully integrated in an enjoyable manner 4:15 The thing that sucks about the balancing as well, is that there isnā€™t a problem with allowing ā€œmetasā€ to exist for extended periods of time, you see it all the time in other multiplayer games like league and stuff, the issue is how healthy the meta feels for the players Most of the ā€œmetasā€ blizzard has allowed to persist have been extremely bad for the game (sojourn and goats), kinda continues to show that even the balance team is out of touch with what the community enjoys
