On June 28th 2023 - Harrison Ford will embark on his last adventure as Indiana Jones in THE DIAL OF DESTINY, finally bringing an end to a cinematic legacy that spans three decades - but does that mean the end of Indiana Jones?

Today we'll be exploring the wild world of Indiana Jones video games and tracing it's history from it's early days in the arcade through to it's death on the Xbox and PlayStation. Along the way we'll cover everything from Monkey Island to Star Wars, Tomb Raider to Uncharted, The NES to the Nintendo 64 - all in hopes of discovering what the future could hold for Henry Jones Junior.

It's part critique, part retrospective, part review and part history lesson - obviously full of spoilers and obviously full of my opinions.

I was the lead designer and writer of Staff of Kings PSP, and this video MADE MY DAY. We were always working with limited budgets and timeframes at Amaze, and the end of a project was usually a letdown as we let the game stumble out the door. Hearing someone appreciate one of those old games, so many years later, really makes me happy. Thank you!

(I work at Undead Labs now, and these days, we get to take WAY TOO LONG on a game, instead!)

Let's all hope Dial of Destiny actually delivers eh? Hopefully this video can provide some feature length Indy content even if it doesn't... Also here is the link to my Patreon in case you want to support the channel which is obviously massively appreciated (especially in the event Disney come after me) - patreon.com/IFinishedAVideoGame

As someone who was the target age of Lego games when the Lego Indy games came out, I can actually say that a lot of us grew up on these movies (thanks to our parents having grown up on them too) and so we were never confused by the cutscenes' reliance on knowledge of the source material. Indiana Jones and the original Star Wars trilogy were staples of my, and other kids', childhoods.

I’m really growing fond of your retrospectives. Your pleasant voice, in-depth research and solid writing make your channel a real YouTube gem.

Hyped because Fate of Atlantis is literally one of the best games ever.

Edit: I’m glad you brought up the voice acting for Indy in Fate of Atlantis. The impression of Harrison Ford as Indy that Doug Lee does is uncanny. Just amazing.

I'm kinda baffled that we haven't gotten a Telltale-style episodic adventure game. It's the perfect fit for this franchise, not only for striking a balance of narrative and puzzle focus with quick bursts of action across a variety of locales, but because episodic adventure is literally the storytelling format of the old cliffhanger serials that Indiana Jones is based on.

Don’t want to sound too over the top here 😅 But your research, voiceover and presentation set the gold standard for retrospectives on YouTube.
You should be really proud. Keep up the great work!

Whether Dial of Destiny delivers or Lucasfilm have just dumped another egg in our faces, all that matters if you've pumped out another legendarily comprehensive piece of gaming history!

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on DOS was the only game my dad played with me. I still have the physical journal they included to solve puzzles. Thanks for reminding me of these games.

I may not be an Indiana Jones fan, but I am a big I Finished A Video Game fan so you know I gotta binge all 3 hours and 46 minutes in one sitting. Interested to learn about these Indiana Jones games though cause I've never played one before haha

I usually watch retrospectives to sleep and never think about them again, but this one feels different. It's the first video of this type I watched in its entirety and I enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for almost a week's worth of entertainment in my free time. I'm definitely going to watch the LOTR retrospective you've mentioned a few times next. It's an instant subscribe for me

The infernal machine was one of the first adventure games I played. Man did I sink hours into that title. For me that game remained a gem of my childhood. Always booting it up after getting from school to figure out how to progress on to the next level and puzzle

Haven’t even played the Indiana Jones games but absolutely loved how thorough, insightful and well written this retrospective was.

That simple explanation of nostalgia at the beginning hit me hard for some reason. What I wouldn't give for a simpler time again.
