I think it depends on the song and the artist! It’s a super interesting dinner conversation topic though! I’ve always been a melody person but I mean, if you consider Pastime Paradise by Stevie Wonder, Gangsta’s paradise has the exact same melody but the lyrics are much more powerful and as a result everyone knows the latter and few are aware of the former. Then there are artists like Eminem where lyrics are more important than melody not just for their meaning but using onomatopoeia and sibilance and even using the words as a percussive element. I’m going to be thinking about this for the rest of the week. Great topic! 😊

I know the lyrics to Epic the Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans because the story is important and well told. I still say melody and lyrics are equally important. I guess it's fine for pop songs and if just want your music to sound nice, but even if a song isn't popular, the story and expression and dynamic lyricism, instruments, and chord changes are all very important. "Glitter" by Daisy the Great and channel Yaelokre are really good. If your going for catchiness and streaming numbers then sure, but both are important it's not much of a competition in my opinion. I think my thoughts on this cemented even more when listening to Disney Wish and Hazbin Hotel. Nice instrumental but was too boring with little information and the melody was repetitive. Do you what you want with your music, I'm just saying both melody and lyrics are important and I don't think one is better than the other. Is it really fun to sing a song if the lyrics are bad anyway? "Thick of It" by KSI is mainly sung ironically because we it's not very good, that song isn't exactly respected and gets memed on in a bad way.
