Iām 13 years old and Iāve been writing songs since I was 8. Iāve always loved the art of music and lyrics. Iāve wanted to be a singer/songwriter for sooooo long! Iāve written over 20 songs, some about my life, some about made up point of views. Even though Iām really shy, and donāt really share my songs with anyone, I really hope my dream will come true someday. Idk if Iām comfortable with sharing one of my songs on here, but hopefully Iāll gain the courage I need soon. ā¤ļøā¤ļø

for me, lyrics have always come easy to me, but i struggled a lot with the music/instrumental part of writing a song (mostly because I don't have the patience to learn to play an instrument..). But recently, i've started playing the guitar again, and I've already got a song going! you totally rock annie dang; thank you for helping everyone here along on their musical journeys :]

Story/Vibe
Set together the topic, the vibe, the story
Be specific about what you want to write about
Break it down
Tie together the story
Chord Progression
Get some chords that fit the mood
Generate progression
Main focus: Mood
The kinds of chords donāt matter to much when starting off
Melody
Melody sometimes come out of nowhere
You can have a recording app playing basically all the time so it can catch your melody
Have your chords looping
Focus on rhythm
Go up
Go down
Combine everything together
Lyrics
Hardest part
Sing random words or gibberish, whatever works, you can write down
Structure
You donāt have to use the traditional structure
Read poetry
Pop structure: Verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse 2, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, chorus

I know Iām a bit late but Iāve been writing lyrics for a good couple years and my biggest tips are;
1) itās ok if you think it sounds similar to an artist you like, originality will come later.
2) keep your syllables similar, but every line doesnāt have to have the exact same number. This especially applies to faster parts of a song, pauses and breaks for emphasis on a lyric.
3) write from the heart, donāt worry about crazy deep metaphors and things that āonly some understandā just write how you feel and people will see that, and love that.
4) donāt worry about it being bad or cringe, it will be. It just will be for a while.
5) donāt stress yourself out over needing the perfect lyric right now! Itāll come at some random point and youāll go āthatās perfect!ā And rush to your notes app
6) just have fun and remember to show emotion, especially in sadder songs.

I tried to write a song. Here are the lyrics:
[Intro] (Spoken)
"I'm sorry, my social anxiety is bad today"
"What's that?"
"It's the anxiety of your social image because you're anxious of society"
[Verse 1]
Shedding tears in my bathroom, Iām sitting āgainst the door
Canāt find a friend to talk to, ācause theyād only make it worse
I canāt tolerate this pain, these pills will never heal the ache
[Pre-Chorus]
I know weāre not that close, and I donāt overdose
But I wish that if only you could truly know
Itās not that hard to share, what you breathe in the air
Oxygen is killing me ācause itās not really there
[Chorus]
If only people could understand
You donāt need to love me, just please give me a chance
I just want someone who actually cares about me
Thatās why I try to please society
Please notice me, acknowledge me
I guess Iām just someone you cannot see
[Verse 2]
Just another Thursday, when I stay at school all day
Studying and homework, keepinā it up to date
Feels like a wasted afternoon, canāt find a song to listen to
[Bridge]
Donāt have a friend to talk to, and tears are raining in my bathroom
Itās hard to not be late
Iāll find a bathroom stall, hide inside, and sit against the wall
Iāll try to stay faint
[Outro]
Itās not so hard to share, what you breathe in the air
The oxygen is killing because it isnāt there
Stucture order is: Intro, Verse 1, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus, Outro
