My mom was always a big fan of the original film. She was waiting for this to releasebut she passed away on December 6th. I think I have to go see this now for her. I love you Mom.

To all you ignorant ones, know this; this isn't some tired remake or retread of old ideas like the franchises you've gotten used to. This is an inventive, imaginative take on a story that has maintained its power to move, from book to screen to stage and back again. The music, performances, and images are insane and if you want to miss out that's on you. You WILL be in the minority.

Although nothing can top the 1985 masterpiece, which i think is one of the greatest movies ever made, especially the ending that bring tears to your eyes.

To clarify, this new adaptation of “THE COLOR PURPLE” 2023 is a musical version that is mainly adapting the musical “The Color Purple” from 2005, and in turn is based on the 1982 novel (original material) and some slight elements of the original movie. This is not a remake/reboot but a new adaptation. 💜 So, we see this musical version as a new adaptation, which can coexist with the original 1985 film, seeing both adaptations as different films, as long as they respect the source material. But if we start to compare them, let's do it respectfully. Furthermore, it is not only exclusive to Hollywood or the West to make remakes or new adaptations based on or inspired by original materials, but also in some Asian countries such as South Korea and Thailand they also make their respective remakes or adaptations.

This is definitely a story that needs to be told. It doesn’t matter how it makes you feel. The fact that they did it in such an uplifting way shows how far we’ve come. I love this piece. I will be watching again.

I really enjoyed the movie much more than I thought I would. Usually I do not get my hopes up for remakes, but this movie greatly exceeded my expectations. The singing was awesome. Fantasia's singing was terrific! She definitely was the best person for job. I have a lot of very moments of when they were singing and dancing. I highly recommend going to see the movie.

I was reluctant to see the "remake" because I didn't think it would compare to the original! I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not a remake of the movie, but a film version of the play! EXCELLENT!
