The Psychology of The Shaman (Inner Journey)

Shamanism is one of the oldest, if not the oldest system of healing known in the world. It forms the prototype from which many other forms of healing are derived, such as modern psychotherapy. The shamanic journey is an expression of the human condition, and despite the cultural differences around the world, the deeper structure appears to remain constant. A common thread seems to connect all shamans across the planet. An awakening to other orders of reality, the experience of ecstasy, and an opening up of visionary realms form the essence of the shamanic mission.

Nobody escapes being wounded. We are all wounded people, whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. The main question is not, 'How can we hide our wounds?' so we don't have to be embarrassed, but 'How can we put our woundedness in the service of others?' -Henri Nowen

"The shaman lives outside the social system, refusing to have any part of it. Yet he seems to connect the populace to the heavens and the earth far more directly than the priest." - Tom Robbins

"He alone 'sees' it, for he knows its 'form' and its destiny." The key to shamanism is to "experience". Not in any other way, but your own way. The essence remains the same, but takes form in paths unique in every individual.

As one walking the path of the shaman, I cannot overstate the importance of feeding both of the wolves within us.

Solitude helps with the shamanic role. Too much contact with others slows the learning process.

As an autistic user of psychedelic substances, I can attest to the importance and majesty of experiencing the terror and wonder of life. A balance must be maintained. Too much of either can spoil can turn one away from finding meaning in the journey. The ordeal gives value to the pleasures that will follow.

Shedding my human flesh for one night was a soul changing experience. Feeling the soft sand of the river beds between my paws and the wind rush past me as I ran through the desert as a coyote saved me from my depression. I woke a different person. The old me had died that night and my soul reborn again as an animal only to be thrust back into the shell of my former self. I had touched the source of everything it reinvigorated my soul.

Holy crap this actually shook me to my core!! Since I was a very young girl, I have had this repeating dream about standing on a mountain cliff and this old Native American man (I’m guessing as he is in decorative garments and head dress.) and he is explaining what the purpose of life is and the language he is speaking isn’t my native tongue but I somehow understand him. After he is done talking, we fly off together as eagles and enter the sunset (which it is setting or rising, but it was huge and bright.) I have always felt like this dream has significant meaning and I have talked to anyone who will listen. My granny said it was my spirit animal/guide… I mean I’m actually in tears right now. I know the suffering I experienced in the past was for a reason and while I was alone, I was not alone and never am. I suppressed the gift that spirit gave me but now, I do not allow the sick to judge my healing…

What a person Carl Jung is, he or any reintegrated oriented soul. It's overwhelming just to imagine what a soul is or can be: in the soul lies another universe, never minor to the physical one. I once observed the stars admitting with certainty how small and insignificant we are compared to this vast enormous universe, but now i admit with full confidence the existence of something beyond any physical entity: it's the self.

A true shaman is born a shaman. One cannot choose to be one. You either are a shaman or you only pretend to be one❤

i don't usually comment on videos but as a shaman in africa specifically Sound africa under the order or Bongoma ( one of the drum person being a sangoma) i pray the Gods guide those who seek true life be gathered here, Thokoza khehla. The spirit asks you continue on this journey and the current personal life issue that you facing take it as a fire that burns your old self.

32:34 - “The Doctor is effective, when he himself is effected”… I cannot agree with this more. Simple statement, but profoundly important when it comes to the healing relationship between client and therapist - I reflect on this weekly when facilitating sessions. Another great video, E - solid theme! 🌲

My first and only councilor (i plan on seeing one again soon) i started seeing at 15, he became my best friend. A man of great wisdom had been a child psychologist since the late 1960's, born in 1936, still practicing into his early 80's. After the first year our relationship had become one of student and teacher. I'll never forget the day after about 3 years when we sat down and he said "Sarah, i have nothing left to teach you, you have it in you and i know you can do it on your own" he has left such an impact on my life that he will never understand. When i told him i wanted to write about his life he told me nobody would be interested. We talked about everything from my life to his, to the patients he had in the past, to my own realization of why i am the way i am and how to deal with a mother who is very mentally ill. He might have thought that nobody would be interested in the life he lived, but he made me realize that ive been a psychologist, shaman, since the day i could understand my own emotions. And i wish i could give the same feeling to others the way me made me feel. One day i hope ill be able to.

to whomever is reading this • sit down and sincerely apologize to yourself for whatever you allowed to go on or allowed yourself to go through - its essential to starting a new chapter in life. you cant heal without first being completely vulnerable and having a conversation with self in full honesty about who you see when you look in the mirror. take accountability and forgive whats deserving ; then deal with it so you can move forward with purpose and strength. you owe yourself ecstasy. I hope you find your way light body. peace to you on your journey.

Comparing the shaman to the alchemist and bringing up Jung's ideas were both great ideas; they really helped me understand the concepts you were going over much better.
