I love how this song’s instrumental alone tells a story. The song starts somber with a quiet, muffled instrumental. This could represent the singer’s depressing thoughts before they take their ‘happy pills’. At 0:16 when the drums come in could represent the singer taking the ‘pills’. And at 0:18 when all the instruments come in represents the pills kicking in and the singer thinking everything is good and jolly and the La-La-La’s and the kazoo in the background really completes it. I also love how the instrumental goes back and forth from the somber sadness to the aggressive, false happiness.
