I hadn't intended to be the villain. I was the descendant of the hero's, the granddaughter of the woman who destroyed the heart of the darkest parasite, the daughter of the couple who fought against darkness until their very last breath, but I was different. He killed them all, killed my entire family in front of my eyes, then he stalked towards me. I had looked into his merciless eyes, blacker and colder than anything I had ever seen in my life. He was worse than the devil, I had screamed and begged as he tore me limb from limb but somehow I survived. I was only a child and the lone survivor, but somehow I had hung on to the only thing I possessed; my humanity. Last summer he'd come and stolen me, he'd come and taken what little I had left. He'd come to destroy my world again. I couldn't tell the day apart from the night, the endless torture sunk deeper into my soul than anything else had. My entire body was burning and I was screaming but he was soulless, he had nothing human about him. So he only made it more unbearable. Worse than that was his eyes, darker than the last time I saw them. They were burned into my mind, I saw them when I opened my eyes and I felt them when I closed them. His mask mocked me. He plagued my days and nights, if everything else wasn't real enough the dreams and the screams that woke me up were stone-cold reality. So when the war began, I went to put an end to the real threat. What I didn't realise was the "collateral damage" that had become my trail, my mark on the world. But it was fair. To put an end to the true monster I had to destroy his demons and everyone else that got in the way. Each stab, each bloodied hand I cleaned, each knife I threw away was a part of my soul breaking away from itself in disgust. I was numb. And so it came around, my night. The night I was going to get to make him scream. It was the only thing that was going to sate my thirst, the only thing to satisfy me: his blood. Each step drew me closer, it echoed in my mind and the empty hallways. He knew I was coming. I ripped my blade free from the leather casing, the sound only pleased me more. The door almost broke from the force I kicked it with. There he stood, his eyes vacant. "I've been waiting for you", his voice was poison and it fueled me. My lips curled into a bloodthirsty smile, the knife concealed behind my back. I took 2 long strides towards him, my face inches from his. He broke the silence, "You can't kill me without becoming like me". It's been 1 week since that night. I look out into the night and revel in my success. I didn't stab him, that would have been too easy. I tied him up and tortured the smugness out of him. If he was evil, I was hell. "you're mad" he'd screamed. I'd laughed and responded, "Madness is like gravity, all you need is a little push". My face straightened, "you pushed me to the darkest ends, and I ended up liking it there". Then I watched as he boiled from the inside out. He'd gone laughing. I waltzed out of there and gazed as the castle gave in the flames, "thankyou" I whispered. I hadn't intended to be the villain.
