In the church I grew up in,(and due to me being a minor, still made to go to) a rumour was started about me from a PARENT, an adult, she was in 40’s, and she made a rumour about me being gay. I wasn’t invited to hang out at my friends houses anymore, my mum started giving me “talks”, they spoke more about the “worldly homosexuals” in church and youth group, I wasn’t allowed to be a kids church leader, parents warned girls my age, my friends, to never be alone with me. I was 12.

Britt talking about how easy it was for her to not be tempted by boys is exactly how I felt as an asexual. "Don't have sex or you might get pregnant or get an STD". Ok, that was easy. Why is everyone else struggling?

My husband and I were married by a gay pastor. AND we played Cards Against Humanity after the reception, which he won, coming up with the craziest answers.

As a straight person with tons of religious trauma, this was so healing to watch. Seeing people pave their own path with their faith is so beautiful.

This comment section does not seem to love others and their opinions the way Jesus would.

Hi, I’m an ally and a Christian. Just wanted to show some support since a lot of comments are so hateful. It’s really sad how many “Christians” are pushing people away from the church and sinning by saying cruel things. I’m glad these pastors are spreading love and showing that everyone is welcomed by God.

Being a gay Christian is difficult at times because it's so hard to find people who understand you. Speaking with other Christians is hard because you don't know whether they are going to hate you or not. Compare that to talking to other LGBTQ people where they don't hate me for it; obviously, it is just a lot of them don't understand. It's hard to find a place where I belong in the Christian community because there's so much hate towards people like me there. I wish I could go to a church and experience that, but it's hard to find inclusive churches.

I feel like Christians across the board (traditional or progressive) lose sight of why we are Christian in the first place. When we are born again, we want live as the new creation we are, which should lead us to live lives that glorify God and not ourselves. When phrases like “my truth is that ______” come up, it seems to all center around the individual. “My truth” seeks affirmation for a preconceived understanding. I know people like to cater the Bible to how they feel the world should work (I have too), but isn’t that a flawed ideology, especially as a Christian? Proverbs 3:5 talks about “not leaning on your own understanding”, why? Because what we make of this world is flawed and we will certainly be enticed to start living in a way that doesn’t honor our Lord. We have a sin nature and will always be drawn to living in sinful ways, full stop. In the super self-centered culture that we live in today, modern Christians can start to ask “what can God bring to the table that I didn’t have before” or “how can believing in God benefit me” or “what pieces of the Bible affirm my old lifestyle, and what parts don’t, and the parts that don’t, how can they be read in a way that justifies the way I live so I don’t have to let go of my old life?” Don’t get me wrong, there are benefits that come with giving your life to Jesus. The Holy Spirit, a personal relationship with God, and most famously living in eternity with God. And we are called to enjoy and be grateful for and put our hope in all of these things. But the benefits of being saved DO NOT start with or revolve around us, or and they certainly don’t conform to what we think the benefits should be.

I really needed to hear that God isn't about control. God made us because of love, because of beauty. We're like flowers in his garden to celebrate, to enjoy life.

It's interesting to see how sometimes people get called out for interpreting religion a certain way when technically we all sort of do that. It's not like there's a hive mind of people that feel exactly the same about anything. In a way, no matter how similar a person's spiritual beliefs may be to another's, no two people will ever believe in the same religion or the same diety- not even within Christianity. So at the end of the day we should just let each other be. And whatever happens after death will be our own personal business and then we can go from there

Sexual health is so important for everyone and I agree with these pastors saying how toxic the church can be towards that. The church talks about how purity until marriage is important but they don’t talk about how beautiful that connection is.

As a queer person who is the kid of a queer pastor, this is so healing to see, and probably the first time where I have seen people with similar lived experiences, this video is so healing!

This is not my faith, but I would still be overjoyed to attend a service run by any one of these pastors. Wonderful discussion. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

While I no longer identify as Christian, I was so lucky to be raised Episcopalian. Being gay was never an issue within my church, and as I've seen over the years in the Episcopalian church in general. Again, I'm no longer in the faith, but it just makes me happy to know that when I do occasionally attend services with my family I'm not unwelcome or unaccepted.

This was a great conversation! I wish I had had people like this while I was questioning my faith. I left catholicism due to the mean and painful rhetoric I heard against the LGBT community prior to even figuring out my own bisexuality because it felt too uncomfortable to be a part of that type of community.

as a pansexual christian, thank you for this video!! one of the biggest struggles i face is not fitting into christian spaces because i’m lgbt and not fitting into lgbt spaces because i’m a christian. seeing representation for people like me, especially religious leaders, is awesome.

I found this episode very healing. Where I am from the church is getting more progressive, but female priests are still unheard of and my mom is on the more conservative side if it's about her own religion. So seeing that there are people fighting to include more people in religion is amazing!
