Loved the lines "Being the most horrid creature around, he was never caged in by the expectations of others", "the squonk always doubted whether the worm really was his friend. Maybe the worm was just lonely, maybe the worm was playing a cruel joke.", "yes it all hurt him so very much, but loneliness hurt him more", "if he hated himself just enough, maybe others would love him", & "he was [...] most of all, too much himself". Definitely speaks to how easy it is to spiral into self-destruction when you have low self-esteem. Animation was hella cute

I think we’re all squonks, and at the same time we’re villagers, while simultaneously being worms. We feel like no one can love us, but we do have people around us who see past what we deem ugly. We all are naturally judgmental as well, it’s just a fact. I think this folklore is powerful because it illustrates the human being. There aren’t just squonks or just villagers, or worms. Everyone has a judgemental villager, a loving worm, or a lonely squonk inside of them, everyone hates part of themselves, which helps us appreciate the beauty of the world around us, the beauty of young love, or a bright pink sunset hitting the white waves of an ocean. Our inner squonk brings out the worm inside all of us.
