Rajneesh portrait by Stephen Halker

Lyrics:
After the storm, we shaved our legs to the skin
Into the snow, our footprints showed where we'd been
They gave us names, they said my name means war
Dwelling in song, the lion and the lamb were restored

Illumination, accede my need, my Rajneesh
Hallucination, accede my need, my Rajneesh

I lit a fire and drank of the breath of his kiss
My tambourine affirmed by the dance of his wrist
Mystical star, burn bright like the tail of a dog
Now we are blessed with the righteousness of the Lord

Illumination, accede my need, my Rajneesh
Hallucination, accede my need, my Rajneesh

I'm on a path of love, I'm on a parrot
Possess me with prayer on the bluff
I'm on a task for God
Entheogen, you lift me within Upanishad

Bright as a thunderbird singing
You stare at the sun to see the sublime
Forgetting the light that makes you go blind

Osho you ask of us singing
If courage is love of the unknown
Consider the powers parading you home

I'm on a path of love saying
You stand in the shade to feel it was blessed
Obscuring from light the seeds you possess

I'm on a path of trust singing
Whatever it takes, receive of the light
The terror will take whatever it likes

This song sounds like Sufjan Stevens went back in time to collaborate with other Sufjan Stevens's.

Really feeling whoever had typed "I want to be such a human disaster that Sufjan writes a song about me" under his Tonya Harding song rn

Sufjan Stevens is the van Gogh of modern music, he has taken pain and sadness and turned it into ecstatic beauty...many artists sing about pain and sadness, but only Sufjan takes that pain and weaves it into something greater, something unique. I don't think there's been a musician quite like him in this century.

For a man to be 20 years into his career and still making something this phenomenal is ridiculous

This song is the culmination of the best attributes of Sufjan - the flutes, the electronics, the folky banjo, the background choir voices, etc etc.

My close friend hanged himself in 2018 and I do think I have been able to cope up with his loss till this day. I still wish if things weren't like this, wish I had the ability to listen to him, just listen that time he wanted me to have an ear. His name was Rajneesh. His b'day is in 10 days and this makes me feel so much closer to him. Thank you SS. Love you Rajneesh. Hope you are at peace.

Me at midnight: OK, I'll listen to the new Sufjan song once, then go to bed. Me at 1 AM: OK, just one more time, then I'm for real done. Me at 2 AM: TAKE ME, TERROR! TAKE ME!

Sufjan ends one of his posts from Feb 2017 saying “To gain your life is to lose it. To lose your life is to gain it. The life you live is not your own. Give your life away.” When I look at him, I see a person who’s given their life away to greatness, for greatness. I can’t claim I understand music. But I know Sufjan is a great man, and in My Rajneesh, it shows.

that magical part ( 3:50 ) when the choir starts singing loudly and the trumpets join in: I feel every emotion all at once: Sufjan is brilliant

This song is the lovechild of Carrie & Lowell and The Age of Adz and I'm here for it. Amazing song, as always. I'm looking forward for the whole album!

I gotta be honest guys, I ironically started listening to Sufjan Stevens back in 2014 when that article was published claiming his fans had the highest IQs. Overtime however the music has grown on me and I've genuinely enjoyed it for a while now (or at least have successfully deluded myself into thinking I enjoy it lol). This song hits the spot man. The emotional appeal of this song has such a broad range, from uplifting and beautiful to forlorn and almost disturbing. When people refer to music as art, this is definitely a song that fits that description.
