The man from nowhere is probably one of the bestknife combat scenes in movie history.

My dad and uncle are former special forces in Korea. They explained that weapons combat. particularly filipino knife fighting was reserved for higher level soldiers and special forces. The 2 yars mandatory is basic boot camp and civil duty such as labor. Those who choose to extend their careers get special training and then from there a few are recruited for special forces.

Best quote of the video, "I have killed him, in a meaningful way." Although the good dental comment was good too.

Man from Nowhere did something that John Wick 3 in particular NEEDED to pay attention to. There are so many body shields in JW3 where they simply walk and allow themselves to be shields while literally only held with one hand knowing full well he is going to kill them. You would fight for your life kicking, headbutting, biting, stamping feet, anything. They literally have hands free and are only being held by the neck from behind with a single hand. Killed that movie for me. Cha destroys them any way he can as soon as he gets a hold of them and lets them go when they become too much dead weight so he can secure another.

There are two things I really like about this scene from the standpoint of someone who has a small bit of experience in real world self-defense martial arts. You pointed them both out to some degree. One - he's attacking the INSIDE of limbs - the parts that will contract the muscles, the tendons, the ligaments.....the connective tissue that is used primarily for gripping and attacking. The fewer of these an opponent has, the less their ability to attack you. Two, he's using angles and retreat while shielding himself with an opponent, keeping a human shield between himself and a bulk of attackers, dictating his lines of defense so as to face the smallest number of opponents at once. This is one of the most realistic (in terms of tactical efficiency) displays of self-defense in the face of multiple attackers.

Man from nowhere literally set a giant trend off, so many movies took inspirations from this movie, ex- raid, wick, taken

such a shame that this was Won Bin's last film, he should really act more in action movies like this one

The fight scene was great because it was so believable, he was constantly moving and it wasn't like other movies where the enemies just waiting around for their turn

In South Korea, it's mandatory for all capable male citizens to serve in the military. That is why the fight scenes in the movie are so realistic. The actors and choreographers all have real world experience in how a realistic fight would be like.

This movie is such a classic. It’s like watching the Korean John Wick. It’s too bad they never followed it up with another one

Cha looks like having control of emotional fight also, in addition to physical fights, against multiple attackers by cruelly slashing a person in front of them to provoke fear.

I've watched this film at least 5 times, and this is my favorite knife combat scene in any movies. I can't say the same about the gun fight scene though, but I am glad you guys break the scene down so well to raise a whole new level of appreciation. Thanks!

When he slashes the forearm while moving back i thought he was trying to intimidate the other assailants, but this breakdown makes it much more sense. Worth pressing the subs button🔥👍

I train and instruct Filipino Kali concepts and have rolled with Jiu Jitsu specialists throughout the years. I always say that where. BJJ practitioners are most comfortable, I am most dangerous. It’s not a “ my Kung fu is better than yours” ego, it’s the fact that, like these gentlemen said, weapons change dynamics. I truly do respect BJJ as an art. It’s proven itself MANY times over but you NEVER want to get close to a knife
