Having a GM move the story forward is so compelling. Every day I wake up wondering, "did we defend X planet?" or "I wonder what the new order is for today?" And with a consistent introduction of new weapons, stratagems, mission types etc... its keeping things feeling very fresh. I appreciate the shake up of the META weapons as well I find right now many people are using variable combinations of weapons instead of almost mirroring one another. Absolutely in love with this idea.

HD2 is literally THE golden standard for a live service game for me. Just the fact that the battlepasses don't expire, ridding the game of fomo, instantly puts it leaps and bounds ahead of other live service products.

Helldivers is that new casual game where every time you drop in a match it always feels intense and refreshing
. It not only helps that you don’t have to worry about a battlepass expiring so it never feels like a chore to play. It’s single-handedly the most unified player base ever, for the most part dropping in with randoms is always a positive experience.

This is how MMO's used to do things way back in yesteryear. . GM's used to be in game and sometimes they would just do a random event just for giggles. They participated in the game with us and came up with things to do on the fly. It always made the game feel fresh and never boring.

The fact that stuff happens real time, unpredictably, is amazing. They never say “hey guys today we are adding new flying bugs, this update will have the servers down for 2 hours. Hope you enjoy!” No, they just show up and then people in character gaslight you that flying bugs don’t exist. It feels real, hell people have made news updates for the game. It is a real time war and it’s awesome

I think Helldivers 2 phattest W is that it's a SUPER immersive game. It truly feels like a warzone simulation rather than "just a game", you don't get a loading screen, you get your pod being deployed or your shuttle coming back from the mission. You don't get a "enter someone else lobby", you physically go with your super destroyer to their location and literally join their rank. The game simply used fictional propaganda to kidnap our senses and invite us into this pleasant roleplay of "fighting for democracy", "no managed democracy is not fascism what you're saying is treason!", "we're fighting to protect Super Earth and to keep peace for humanity", "It's not offense, it's preemptive defense". We all know it's satire and we're all playing along, It truly feels very good, I despise fascism as much as the next guy, but I have a lot of fun being immersed in this universe and playing along with it. I think a lot of the "Marketing" of the game is just this unassuming "call", like "come play with us, it's going to be fun"

It bears mentioning too that the setting of the game allows any mechanical changes to be explained in-universe. They didn't "nerf" the Breaker, Helldivers found a favorite, so now Morgunson is cutting corners to keep up with demand. They didn't "buff" the recoilless rifle, researching the samples gathered by Helldivers allowed for improvements to the payload, so now its double the boom for the same weight. Any change to the enemies AI or appearance can be explained by bugs evolving, or bots literally updating. Its incredibly immersive when outside influences can be explained with in-universe lore

I think the thing that does it for me is the human touch can be felt. Hey the boys are pushing hard on the creek and the drops are coming faster. Our manufacturing facility has come under attack liberate the plannet and we get mechs. Gas the bugs and start retaking planets as and who knows what kind of an effect is that going to have?! (Bugs cant fly. The bugs cant fly...) its tangible, we know Jole is up to something but what's it going to be? And what cool thing will his next assault bring?

This game deserves all the praise. A phenomenally fun game, a true leader of a CEO, a great way of incorporating true live service (galactic war), with great monetization methods that feel fair. A true wake up call to the gaming industry where fun should always be the first priority. A quote from the CEO: "We have to earn the right to be able to monetize."

I am REALLY hoping we get a big team mode/mission. One where we could have like 16 helldivers fighting an onslaught of terminids/automotons. Maybe to keep it in lore, helldivers are sent in 4 squads of 4 to the same area to tackle several missions within the same time frame, then activate something together (like the insectide missions)
