In the beginning, there was a community of Quake II runners, with nothing else to do. One of them said "Let there be run!" and roughly one year after that, it appeared.

They initially thought that the final time would be 18:xx, but one of them disagreed and thought a high 17 would be more accurate because of the new strats!

But nay! A time of 17:13 was the most appropriate, to the shock of the runners, who grinded all the levels over 230 000 times, blessed be them who sacrifice their sanity for the purity of the Speed.

*TL:DR. This run is segmented, it was a pain to grind, but we are so happy to finally show this segmented run to You.

That was 18 minutes of my life well spent. Got Quake 2 for my birthday January 1998. I was 13 years old. I opened it in the morning, and then went to school looking forward to hyper blasters. This run was very nostalgic.

Imagine being a Strogg. It's 12:05, and you break for Quizno's. You're just starting your sandwich at 12:20, and you get a text from work that the war's over. Apparently you left some guy named Bitterman alive at a crash site.

In the intro: "We wished them luck and god speed as well." Yeah, that's some god speed alright.

This game is amazing to this day. Its very well made compared to modern standards. Other than using strafe-jumping, rocket-jumping and grande boosts there are no other bugs that can be exploited. No clipping through walls, no out of bounds, no other glitches. Just pure mechanical skill. Great run and great game.

Somewhere in the strogg command center: — Where is the enemy? — We don't know, he is everywhere!

Something needs to be said about how well optimized Id games were back in the day. This and Quake 1 ran flawlessly on my toaster back then.
