As someone who struggled to get through the first level of Quake 2 due to it being very incompatible with my computer, this remaster turned this into one of my favorite games I've played in the last couple years. I think remasters like this are a fantastic step for introducing older games to younger audiences like me!

I'm glad my old man taught me to appreciate this game, it felt absolutely cutting edge when it came out. We didn't get a lot of technology brand new growing up, hell we had dial up until 2009, but I remember him coming home and peeling the plastic off the box of Quake II the day it came out. We booted it up and took turns each death, and even the simplest things like the sound of the pump action shotgun takes me back. This game was and is special.

Quake 2 was the first multiplayer shooter I played back in high school. We'd go to the computer lab in the evening and just have LANs that would go on for hours, fragging each other and during my second year I had a lot of free time due to taking less classes, so I would often sit in the library playing Quake 2. I was obsessed with this game and to this day it's one of my favourite shooters from the 90s.

I jumped right into the Machine Game campaign and played it left to right. I had a really good time with it. Loved the ending! And you can see clearly that that took some inspiration from the Quake (1) modding community. I was a well-designed campaign, six maps, each about an hour long, great for an evening session.
And I really loved these slaughter encounters.

I remember Rune also had enemies leaping off ledges to face you, sometimes to their death, the AI was quite impressive when you played around with placing objects, they recognised walkable surfaces even when it was a row of barrels I put and climbed up ledges too
it was hilarious when you spawn them on top of a castle and after a brief fight jump to your doom seeing mid air that 2 or 3 of them decided to follow you, that's dedication

I had no idea Quake II was hated or even disliked. I remember when it came out on PC, literally everyone loved it here, it was amazing.
