John Cuniberti, engineer/mixer of "Running" just re-mastered the album (for our/his listening pleasure), thank you! He also made the comment "What a beautiful album!" in his note to me, can't tell you how much that means. Thank you, John! xx
(This is a re-post with the cover photo of the album at the end, which I forgot to add on before. How could I have forgotten???:))
Written in 1981 in Milwaukee, recorded/released in 1983, I've been thinking about this song for days. What is it? A one-off for me, it'll never quite happen like this again ... on drums, the great Paul van Wageningen, with whom I developed a treasured friendship (he never minded my handing him charts when I was obsessed with them after working with Tom Sellers on "Ladies on the Stage") and on bass, the great Joy Julks. Frank Martin and Mary Watkins, legendary greats, both played keys, and Linda Tillery/Vicky Randle did the backing vocals (with Vicki adding congas).

Jean was in London at the time, having moved there with Slick, but we played this song together many, many times over the years ~ always a joy!
"Running" was recorded and mixed by John Cuniberti at Hyde Street in San Francisco - the same room where Jefferson Airplane recorded their hit album "Surrealistic Pillow" - and we had problems with this particular song. John accidentally erased the first third or so while doing the setup for overdubs - he was on the phone - which was a tragedy for me because that was absolutely one of my favorite sections of the whole album; we had to take the first take, which had bias problems, and somehow "marry" it into the second. Mary Watkins came in and re-did her part over that section ... it was a nightmare, but somehow it worked out. Man, problems in the studio, still happening right this very day!:))

I'm sure there's much more I can tell you about this recording, but this will have to suffice for now. Thanking the goddesses for bringing this back to me in vivid memory!
Enjoy.
