What is the worst Radiohead album?

I think many fans would be tempted to say Radiohead’s “worst” was their debut, Pablo Honey. It was fairly generic and bland alternative rock. Not bad, just unoriginal in comparison to the monumental leaps they would take with consecutive releases. Although it was the album that brought us “Creep” and introduced the world to this promising new act. The group had yet to fully prove themselves and surely any band would love to know that their greatest efforts followed their initial release. So in that sense, I think Pablo Honey kind of gets a pass.

So, what is the worst Radiohead album? Well The Bends was an improvement on all fronts, bringing some of their most memorable moments. OK Computer and Kid A are widely considered some of the greatest alt-rock records of all time. Amnesiac felt like Kid A leftovers but still stood on it’s own two feet as a notable project. The political Hail to the Thief likely carries their most mixed bag of tracks -- but in it’s bloated runtime lies some considerably strong tunes. They would remedy the previous lack of focus with the exceptionally colourful and confident, In Rainbows. But then we got The King of Limbs -- The Worst Radiohead Album.

I sincerely love TKOL. I can see why, especially coming off of In Rainbows, the looping may seem repetitive but I really love the atmosphere of it all. Bloom and Separator are some of my favorite Radiohead songs and some of the most uplifting in their discography. I wish this album was more beloved but it does spark interesting conversations.

I’m sorry but every time this video describes something about the album in a negative light, it’s something I, as a huge fan of the album, personally love about it. I think the longform repetitive jams make this album feel free and unrestrained from typical songwriting norms, it really feels like this album places you in its little world. And I like the coldness of the album, it has a real maturity to it.

Calling Separator a whimper is a huge undermine to what an amazing song it is

The "repetitive, trance inducing loops" are exactly what make this such a special installation in their catalog. That repetition allows for the trance to be achieved. This is a simplistic approach, that showcases a simple idea and how it can evolve and transform over a few minutes. PLUS THE BASS LINES ON THIS ALBUM, THE LYRiCS OMG WHAT ARE YOU SAYING SILLY MAN. "A giant turtle's eyes as jelly fish float by" DO YOU HATE TURTLES AND JELLYFISH?!!?!?!?!!? ok sorry please make more of these <3

Radiohead albums are like sex and pizza. When it's great OH BOY it's great. And when it's not, it's still pretty good.

I personally am a huge fan of Separator. The way the bass line sounds almost discordant, the wonderfully bright guitar riff that comes in later that just makes me super happy, and the echoey canon of “wake me up” slowly growing until the climax of “if you think this is over, then you’re wrong.” Masterpiece. Amazing.

"Their 'worst' things are still better than 90% of what's out there..." Maybe 80%, but essentially agree with you.

Well, language is a powerful thing. It's not the same to say: "The worst Radiohead album" as saying: "The least good Radiohead album"

"Codex" is absolutely GORGEOUS and by far the best song on the album and one of their best songs in their entire discography. The vocals and piano melody have a very Neil Young circa "Harvest" era.

The King of Limbs is honestly a masterpiece. It's not for everyone and takes a long time to get into, but when it clicks, it's one of the most unique and enjoyable soundscapes out there.

This is my dad's favourite Radiohead album. Why? He's a drummer. There's so much emphasis on drums and rhythm on this record, it's really mesmerising to him, especially songs like Feral or Separator
