The last bit made me cry. HE is thanking US for giving this opportunity to HIM, when he has given so much to US. His music has been my best friend at times. It has kept me alive in the darkest times because I didn't feel alone listening to what he was able to articulate. I hope he knows how much what he does matters, and how grateful I am for it.

It's no mystery why Thom is more open and relaxed here. It's the interviewer. Zane is chill, down to earth, present, active listening, and wants to discuss genuinely interesting things. Thom gets scripted stock questions, barely-there interviewers, and star-struck sit-downs constantly. It's boring and exhausting for brains like his. He must be thrilled on the rare day it's not one of those.

Kinda hits home. I've tried to put together so many bands to make music, try something new, not play alone, but a lot of them either wanted to do their own thing, wanted to just party, or weren't really committed (or all 3).
There's magic in playing with a band. It has to vibe. It's a relationship and bands fall apart if there's toxic musicians (like playing over other people, not tuning together, or showing up to practice, not practicing, etc).
Just like relationships it takes work and effort from everyone which is why it's more honest because when the synergy stops so does the band.

"You know you're in trouble when people stop listening to sad music. Because the moment they stop listening to sad music, they don't want to know anymore... They're turning themselves off" - T. Yorke
