In a world of generic pop and manufactured boy bands, two visionaries birthed a band that blurred the lines between music and art, resulting in a body of work that has been innovative and highly influential for over 20 years. Gorillaz is a virtual band created by Blur's Damon Albarn and graphic artist Jamie Hewlett, who wanted to comment on mainstream pop culture while pushing the boundaries of creativity. Their music can be described as a melting pot of various genres, with collaborations being a cornerstone of their musical journey. The band's virtual and animated nature has allowed them to experiment with different sounds, inspiring a new generation of artists, and redefining what it means to be a "real" band. Experience their unique identity and music through their legacy of eclectic sounds and multimedia storytelling.

Fun fact: A group of gorillas is referred to as a ‘band’.

I remember growing up thinking they were a band and the members looked a little like their cartoon counterparts lol

Gorillaz's genre can be described as "whatever Damon wants it to sound" and " whichever artist he'd like to collab with". And that is amazing. Been a fan for 5+ years and I keep finding new or overlooked stuff in their old records as well.

I love how when they first debuted Noodle was still a small child, but these days she’s a full grown adult. Most animations like to keep their characters the same age forever

The thing about gorillaz is that it’s basically impossible to not like at least one song due to how diverse their music is.

It’s crazy how ahead of their time Gorillaz were. Considering only now we’re starting to see the inevitable rise of digital stars that don’t exist, like Miquela. Or hologram performers of dead artists.

I saw Gorillaz live last year and it was the best concert experience I ever had.

I've been a fan of Gorillaz for most my life. I don't think it's controversial to say that Damon Albarn is a musical genius and should be considered a modern day legend of music

Turns out the band that isn’t real is the realist band of them all❤

I always thought of the Fall as a solo project from 2-D. I never really considered it a full Gorillaz album. I don't think it deserves the hate it gets, Revolving Doors and Amarillo are wonderful.

I fucking love Gorillaz. One of my favorite bands ever. I don’t think they have a bad record to their name.

I was already a teenager when Gorrilaz formed and loved them, but lost touch a bit over the next two decades. Having children has made me see them in a new way, they connect with young kids like no other band. Just the fact they’re animated draws them in, it has exposed my kids to so many diverse styles of music their age group would never have been into. Makes me wish I’d been a child when I first saw them.

I blasted “Stylo” when I got my first sports car. It’s still an indescribable feeling to this day speeding down the highway with that song!

You gotta understand Hewllet was a top notch comic artist and while he doesn't do comics anymore he's a ultra respected illustrator. A big part of Gorillaz success is his visuals, but he's usually talked about as an addendum to the band.

Honestly this was a genius idea. Sucks they probably won't be able to make that movie any time soon though. I've always thought they could make a movie that played out like a chapter in their lore, but we get to see the inbetween bits alongside music videos and shit. Oh well, maybe one day.
