I think the scene with Danielle Fishel sums up the idea of this film. As weâre watching, we see all of these random events and at the end, like a dream, we are left to wonder what it means. Donald even framed the film like a dream, with the random cuts, dialogue that leads to nothing, even the acting seems to have a bit of a sleepy, trance like, and calm quality to it. This movie is basically meta surrealism. Like a dream, it really means nothing. But I think whatâs more profound than that is the fact that weâre LOOKING for meaning in the movie. That is the human condition, that is something that we naturally do. The title âClapping for the Wrong Reasonsâ is perfect because we know that this is brilliant, but we arenât fully secure as in why it is brilliant. Iâm probably still wrong about the whole thing myself, and thatâs what makes this a work of art. It has no meaning, while at the same time, begging for someone to analyze, understand, and explain it.

I remember when this first came out I had just graduated high school and saw this and I didn't really understand it. Then I went to college, met new people, stopped talking to people, fell in and out of love, felt the realities of life, questioned existence as a whole and now I can come back to this and understand the main character on a different level I couldn't before, it just took life hitting me.

In an interview, Donald said that one of the rules they had set for the house during the making of this project was that no one could be on their phones. He said he found it weird how when say you're in a conversation with someone and they go get a drink or something, and you're not pulling out your phone to check Twitter. I find it interesting that whenever someone leaves the room (Donald leaving Ludwig, chance leaving the connect four game, Donald leaving the theatre, Donald leaving the fireplace etc) no one ever pulls out their phone to check Twitter or anything, they just sit there.

This always brings me peace when my head is all over the place. I remember first watching this a couple years ago and it always gave me this uneasy feeling, but since then itâs helped me revisit memories from that time long ago. I was in high school then, not knowing who I am. Shit I still donât... But this video helps me put the pieces together in a way that I canât explain how. thank you Donald. I will meet you one day and thank you in person for helping me stay alive and getting me through high school. Without you, I wouldnât be here.
