I feel like the OG Disney films were actually pretty deep.
The step sisters (especially Anastasia) just wanted to be loved and validated by someone. They dressed up, showed off, and acted prissy because that’s what they were taught would get them a man. That’s what they were taught would get them the love and life they so desired. That doesn’t excuse the way they treated Ella but it does give a bit of background to their characters and I think this movie really shows that
