My niece was a regional influencer on her way to becoming much bigger. We had always supported her choice, most of the time we took her photos, helped with the editing, her outfits, and overall just remained someone she can rely on. She stopped because the amount of weird/inappropriate DMs/messages she would get was crazy. We would alternate checking her comments, dms, & emails and it would be non-stop asking for nudes, frontal male body parts, messages asking for private meet ups in exchange for cash/connections or men telling her where she was at so that they could "see her" when she posted a photo with a tagged location. She is now a business owner, in college, and could not be happier. I think what helped her mainly was she seperated her personal/business life. She never posted a no makeup look or posted any area around where we lived within a 15min radius. She was cautious and when she was done, she was done with it all.

I follow influencers, but I keep in mind that unless someone considers me their friend (not just a follower) then we arenât friends. I think itâs healthy to have an emotional distance from people who we donât know personally, because we may see them as a friend but they most likely donât see us the same way. We donât know the whole story but he was probably sending her money for something in return.

I knew Mercedes very well, she was an influencer for my clothing company for years. My last message to her was âhey your next bundle is ready, where do you want me to ship itâ I never heard from her. She travelled a lot and I remember her telling me once she had a couple stalkers and had to move. I NEVER would have thought it would go this far! We were friends for ten years and she was SUCH a sweet soul, not to mention gorgeous. She didnât deserve this.

When people start showing up uninvited to where you are, that's an issue. Most influencers can't afford the security staff that many celebrities pay for so they are vulnerable when the crazy person watching their videos starts to think the influencer is talking only to them or when they don't understand that they are likely one of many who are sending gifts or money.
I always thought the Paul brothers encouraging people to stand outside their house was going to be disastrous for other influencers because they were so well known. Idk why but people tend to really forget that the people they watch don't actually know them. (I find the idea of parasocial relationships odd because I've never really forgotten that I don't actually know anyone I watch either & they are showing me exactly what they want me to see so I just don't really get it.)

I have a friend who was murdered by her husband because she was becoming very well known in our community and everybody loved her. It she had told someone that she had planned to leave him So I'm assuming the day she confessed that she didn't want to be with him anymore in a crime of Passion He took her Life. No Justice was served. No one has done anything about it. It's kind of scary too they come well known or famous these days. You have no clue what people are fantasizing about Doing to you.

The problem with the digital age today is people over sharing. It's become so easy for stalkers to find out their victim's location just by a photo. People really need to be cautious about what they post online.
