I received a lovely email back in February requesting I make a cover of this enchanting song from the 1961 classic "The Innocents". Off I went to borrow it from the local library and instantly fell in love. This is a story I've seen on stage ("The Turn of the Screw") and it translates beautifully on-screen.

Mind you, I had every intention of making this feel really scary for Halloween - as it's quite spooky in the film - but the more I sang it, the sadder I felt. Even though the story is chilling, it's also steeped in incredible tragedy. ♥ Happy Halloween, friends!

She would sleep. She would wake. She would walk.. And time went by. How much time, it was impossible to reason.

The gardener said the words she'd heard those years ago, she willed it with everything she had. You, me, us. Us. "Take me with you," she cried in her heart. "Take me, drag me down like you did the other," but the lady in the lake was different now, the lady in the lake was also Dani, and Dani wouldn't, Dani would never. In fact, no one would ever be taken again, and no one has been taken to this day. For the rest of her days, the gardener would gaze into reflections, hoping to see her face. Her own lady in the lake. She'd leave her door open at night, just a crack, should she ever come back. Waiting for her lover to return. This is an amazing song for the haunting of Bly Manor, and it's a great song anyone else think's so.

This song sounds like the beginning of a Witcher quest. "A Tree within the forest kills anything that goes near it. The Witcher hears a tale, of how two lovers lay beneath the tree until they both fall silent. So going into the woods the Witcher finds the tree, but entangled within its roots is a lone Maiden. But no lover. Geralt deduced that the man ran away, heart broken the spirit inhabits the tree, looking for the lover."

We lay my love and I beneath the weeping willow. But now alone I lie and weep beside the tree. Singing 'Oh willow waly' by the tree that weeps with me. Singing 'Oh willow waly' till my lover return to me. We lay my love and I beneath the weeping willow. A broken heart have I. Oh willow I die, oh willow I die.
