It took me several days to watch this entire thing. I'm so happy to see Seán play the game that got me into the souls-borne games. I had never completed the game on my own ever, so I was absolutely amazed to finally play it again and destroy everything on a new playthrough using the BONK build. As someone who has 100% Bloodborne and Elden Ring, I will happily say, Darksouls 3 will be added to that list very soon. Thanks Seán!

Some very awesome details Jack forgot to mention I'd like to mention myself. Everytime you took the very big Plunges in Dreg Heap you went back in time, the first big plunge takes you to Dark souls 2, as Jack said the fire lady is a character in that game. And when you drop to the Demon Princes which Lorian killed, you're at Dark Souls 1, dropping literally into Firelink Shrine in ds1. And then you go even further in time to the Ring City back when Gwyn was Alive I think? In the Painting of Ariandel, it is a Painting inside the painting of Ariames, the Painting of Ariames rotted and fell to ruin same as Ariandel, so Father made a new world written on Ariames. And we are making the Third Painting, where we can have a world inside where everything has Ended.

The best way I've ever heard the Gael fight described is "It's the perfect Dark Souls fight. Two nobodies fighting over nothing at the end of time."

Since you brought up the time travel aspect, I thought you might find this anecdote amusing. Some time ago, I ran a Dark Souls tabletop game (D&D) where I leaned in to the time is messed up aspect to bring in all my favorite stuff from all three games. I also let my players choose between original characters and existing NPCs, so our party consisted of the Emerald Herald, Solaire, Lucatile, and the dead Witch of Izaleth whose clothes you steal from Ceaseless Discharge. At first, things went well - the party wandered through areas from various Dark Souls games confused and disoriented and fighting horrors of various sorts. However, because my players are smarties, they picked up on time being weird and started using it to their advantage. The Witch of Izalith character, for example, found a bonfire that was farther back in time and used it to reach Izalith before the upper area became blight town and save her sisters - they were still spider-demons, but they were no longer slowly dying/insane. Solaire, meanwhile, used did the same to find the Nameless King (who I decided was the 'Sun' he was looking for) before he fell. By the time the party had finished, they'd unmade basically all of Dark Souls canon and brought the age of fire crashing down around them - it was insane and hilarious. The lesson? Never ever give D&D players access to time travel. And, if you do, sit back, have a drink, and enjoy watching the world burn. Or, in this case, stop burning (age of darkness).

The kid from the painting mentioning Gael made me tear up, having the player kill someone then going back to another character who knew them and is waiting for them always gets me.

I’m absolutely in love with these ridiculously long gameplay videos because i get to watch them at my own pace instead of relying on the YouTuber to drop another episode. Sean is doing everything right.

I love these longer videos! I have never seen any Dark Souls game and know practically none of the lore, so thank you Jack for describing little details as you go along! Watching you play these games has been an extremely immersive experience. ❤

Love how in the dark souls 1 video Sean says there’d have to be a lot of want for him to do dark souls 2. Then this opens with “I’m going them all, even dark souls 2”. Can’t wait to watch them all 😊

Ok so just gonna clarify a couple things 1. The lords of cinder refused to do it because there was 0 reason to link the flame. The twin princes didn't do it because they KNEW there was nothing in it for them. The abyss watchers didn't because the flame didn't keep the abyss at bay, so why do it? Aldritch didn't do it because he was basically stuff'd into the first flame because he was INCREDIBLY strong at the time. And Yhorm didn't because he had nothing left to protect, so why link it if it wouldn't be able to protect his loved ones? 2. The princes DID succeed in letting the fire fade, because originally you never actually got called from your grave (untended graves is what the original timeline was) but since fire and time are so closely related or maybe because of the guy we meet who actually was willing to link the flame again, we end up getting called. 3. Ashen ones are the "ash" of those who failed to link the fire (they just got dumped as kindling into the first flame instead of being able to link it, they got their ass handed to them by SoC) given life. And called by the toll of the bell to head to firelink shrine, where they are told what to do. You of course are the only one who is supposed to link the flame, the others got called to finish their job when it comes to their beef with the lords of cinder (Anri and Horace, Siegward and that other guy are a good example of those who only were called to slay 1 lord of cinder.) while we were called to basically kill every boss in our path. We kill literally everything, we kill gods, god devourers, dragons (bootleg ones not real ones) and a TON of other random beasts and tough opponents. Like, we had no reason to go to archdragon peak. We just went there and killed people that were just chilling there. There ya go, 2 important facts to help clarify some stuff.

Took me a few days but i finished the video!! i loved the existentialism discussion and how you can find a connection to your views through such a viscerally beautiful game. Can't wait to watch you play Bloodborne again! your enjoyment of it made it one of my favorite games to watch people play, so thank you!
