For you guys who want the lyric
This is the place
Sit down, you're safe now
You've been stuck in a lift
We've been trying to reach you, Thom
This is the place
It won't hurt ever again
The smell of air conditioning
The fish are belly-up
Empty all your pockets
'Cause it's time to come home
This is the place
Remember me
I'm the face you always see
You've been stuck in a lift
In the belly of a whale
At the bottom of the ocean
The smell of air-conditioning
The fish are belly-up
Empty all your pockets
'Cause it's time to come home
The smell of air-conditioning
The fish are belly-up
Let it go
Today is the first day of the rest of your days
So lighten up, squirt

Background of this song that I’m sure most are aware of but I’ll say it anyway:
This song was originally written for The Bends. They performed it live a couple of times in 1996. They tried to develop it more to put it on OK Computer, but they thought the commercial potential of the song was too stressful, so they never finished it.
The live version and some early studio versions are much more explosive and loud, and were a fan favorite for unreleased/bootlegged songs.
In 2017, for the 20th anniversary of OK Computer, they released a finished version of the song. Along with a music video of Thom in a lift, visiting different rooms, with cameos from characters from other music videos. Such as the kid from Paranoid Android at 2:52.

For a brief moment, the "01" in the elevator display turns into an "OK", then the doors open and Thom sees someone who looks like himself but isn't. That, I think, is Radiohead's lead singer looking back at the man he used to be when he made OK Computer.
He walks toward that person, but he isn't himself anymore — there is only one Thom, and they ain't him. They turn around to face the real one; he stays put, looking back at them. Even though he pressed "01" on the panel, he won't join them because they are not his destination. Rather, he contemplates the OK floor briefly, then moves on (presumably) to the ground floor where he needs to attend to real-life matters — hence the bags.

I like the idea that Thom here has just accepted the slow drag of life and descended until the eventual end-- where he wouldn't have to be stuck anymore. In the end, we are all on the same lift together. There is an end to the descent. And you don't have to cut the descent short. Accept that your doors will open to strange places and people, and friends will come and press all of the floors. Whether you accept that or not, everyone wants you to stick around for a couple more floors. So stick around. Stick around with all of us and just... "let it go".

Man, you can't say lift isn't one of the most emotional songs RH have ever made. because it's so.. applicable to everything. I see it as acceptance of living a mundane life, but being happy because life is still a blessing, so enjoy your journey, until it's tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmeee to come home.
small edit: when watching the music video i saw at around 2:57 Thom is speaking to the electrician changing the lights, it's like "oh how are you doing that in a moving lift?" genuinely looks like he's actually asking, knowing Thom, he probably was. adorable

In Daydreaming Thom visits many rooms, in Lift, many rooms visit you.
