Itโs funny how nobody ever seems to talk about what this song is actually about: what weโre told to strive for and the life weโre shown as an ideal will ultimately solve nothing because itโs completely superficial. The narrator has achieved everything he was supposed to, and has only destroyed himself in the process and found no peace at all. The American Dream, if you want to look at it that way, is a lie. Like the entire album, itโs an attack on modern soulless neoliberal capitalism; itโs not just a sad song.

my cat died today. he was the first cat i ever had to live an entire lifetime. moments after i just couldnโt stand to see another cat in my timeline and even anywhere. itโs devastating though it canโt be helped, itโs not like thereโs still something i can do so i just cried away in silence. It's strange how all these songs with a "sad" meaning to it are always in a major key, it's like a sweet depression or a nice cry... I find it yes strange, but also beautiful.
