Sufjan's music makes you feel happy and sad at the same time. Nostalgic.

My mummy died in 2015 after suffering a severe stroke. Consequently she suffered a lot and unfortunately only lived 3 months and 3 weeks, exactly. This entire album helped me while I was grieving and not wanting to live anymore. Three years later, I'm slowly adapting to this new world because everything changes when your mother dies and you are never the same.

When I listen to Sufjan I feel the insignificance of existence simultaneously with the magnitude of every human emotion

Sufjan's music is like a chilly spring breeze that makes you shiver but the sun is also hitting you... So you're kind of both chilly and warm? Yeah. Chilly and warm.

When you learn that this album is about his dying mother, it changes so much. I didn't think it could get more depressing

First time I listened to this I sobbed. That was 2015-16. Still beautiful. Still magic. Thank you SS for sharing your gift 🙏🏼

My father died in 2015 and this was the soundtrack to my grief. Today (five years later) I decided to give it a listen again thinking that enough time had passed that maybe I could handle it. Apparently I can't. I was in tears thirty seconds into the first track.

He took all his loss and pain and turned it into uplifting beauty. What a treasure he is

This music is sublime. It gives me chills. This is the greatest living American songwriter who is currently producing original work.

My mother is bipolar and an alcoholic and it has been really difficult with her since my early twenties. This past few days have been especially hard because of her illness and behaviour. I am grieving the mother who will never again be like she used to. I was listening to this album and it seemed like the perfect soundtrack to this time in my life. I didn't know anything about Sufjan Stevens private life, right until now when i found out what this album was about. It makes total sense now that although our stories are very different, i connect to it so much. Thank you Sufjan Stevens!!
