I've always found the history of Eastern Europe to be both fascinating and underappreciated. From Stefen Nemanja in Serbia to Emperor Alexios I Komnenos in Byzantium, it's an adventure learning. I'm from a Chinese civilisation so learning about other cultures as old or older than mine is exciting. Most fascinating is how Greece have survived as individual city states and never lost their culture despite being dominated by both the Latin Romans and Ottoman Turks. That is strength and pride!
Much love to the people of Greece from Taiwan 🇬🇷❤🇹🇼

Some people are not happy with this strong historical remembrance and conscience of the Greeks. They resent that. In a way, I can understand that. Because at times it can be intimidating. Sometimes I myself can‘t believe how old and strong this Greek culture still is. But when you drive up the Lycabettos hill and watch the Acropolis against the background of the Aegean Sea, when you walk through the beautiful landscape of Delphi and see the sacred temples, when you visit the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul and attend the service in the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul, then you will feel this unique sentiment of living history. It is all still there under the shining light of the mediterranean sun. This makes me feel so humble and proud at the same time because humans have done all this. It is the cultural heritage of our human race.

As a Greek myself, I can say that this is the first video which encompasses all the most basic information in less than an hour, and it's explaining everything it does need to explain in the most necessary essence. Astonishing documentary, with excellent choice of pictures and videos. God bless you 👑
P.S. In modern Greek, it's also called Ελλάς (Ellas, without the "H" sound that is the result of the spiritus asper)

Great presentation. I'm currently learning Greek. There are so many words in English and Spanish that are derived from Greek, I'm having a great time learning. Seeing how human history is, I'm confident in saying that one day in the future, the traditional parts of Greece that are being held by turkey will eventually return to their rightful owners. What we are living is only a blip in history, but Greece is eternal.

Brilliant documentary about a people who has refused to be dominated throughout the centuries by almost every major empire the world has ever seen, or at least left its marks on it that still echoes to this very day. The Greek spirit is an unbreakable one, just like the phalanx once was. Breathtaking story of these brave people and their culture, and I hope to see the Greeks prosper and flourish for decades, if not centuries, to come.
Stay strong, Ελλάς.

My fiance and I spent 5 weeks in Greece, and it was truly so magical, every part of it. Even in Athens, as busy as it was, everyone was friendly and you never felt in danger (just keep your backpack on your chest - LOL iykyk).
We traveled down the Peloponnese peninsula, seeing Mystras and Monemvasia. We drove through so many beautiful mountains and fruit groves between destinations. The history in every place we went to was astounding. We also went up to Meteora, and some of the Sporades.
Crete was one of my favourites. So interesting to see the clash of Byzantine and Ottoman influence on the island, while they still hold a cultural identity and pride in their ancient Greek past.
Excellent video!!
