I know this is super late, Logan, but as an old fan of Star Wars and a new fan of your channel, let me drop some knowledge on you my friend. You're 100% correct, lightsabers in fact DO NOT generate heat just by being activated. The blade itself is essentially contained within a magnetic feedback loop, which is how it maintains it's shape and isn't just a gout of energy blasting out of the handle. Once it comes into contact with matter other than a different saber blade, then it causes the thermal reaction that allows it to for example melt a 3ft thick blast door in a few seconds. It's also why in the movies when a blade is activated, nothing happens, but in the rain, it'll pop and hiss and cause steam because the rain drops are vaporizing upon contact because that contact is what unleashes the heat of the blade by breaking the feedback loop.
Also, a super high risk./high reward maneuver for the saber is deactivating it to let your opponent lose balance, then quickly reactivate it after you've, as you say "flanked them".

I'd like to see them use more of a point fighting method with lightsaber duels. The thing is nearly weightless (I do recall jedi being able to add weight or something like that so its easier to control), and as you all's you really have to do is barely touch someone with it so I could see almost a style that consists of pokes and light taps. Also missed opportunity, I feel, is not using steam in place of blood splatter. How cool would it be to see a jedi end an enemy with a gut stab, and have the bad expel steam from their open mouth.

Two requests:
Can you please do more of these?
- Empire strikes back - Luke vs Vader
- Attack of the clones - Douku vs Anakin
Can you please apply to work for Disney? I think you'd do a lot of good there ;)
Nerd alert: In the books, light saber combat does include a lot of force pushes and pulls, including literally boxing your opponent in (into a force box).
If you look at Luke v Vader 1 - aka - Empire strikes back - You see Vader throwing a lot of debris at Luke while keeping him focused and moving back.

Video was good.
1. The Fin vs Kylo question. Force wielding for dark side in this fight is likely cathartic and Kylo using his anger to overpower Fin would be more satisfying than using the force. If he was going to use the force to win, he would have just killed him without the lightsaber. Kylo expects to win and is getting the most pleasure from fighting in this way.
2. As mentioned in a previous video regarding a karate expert, most of the movements in the lightsaber combat are ultra instinct. They train kata and spar in order to build up instinctual actions that are augmented by force predictions [spider sense], that enables them to react faster than thought. When they lock blades there, it is as you say, strictly to have a dialogue, and it is only for that sake they hold this position. The second one would become actively combative, the other would sense it, which wouldn't allow for the adjustments mentioned. You have to consider that during these fights they are trying to read each others thoughts, or project thoughts/emotions.
How force fights are is everyone trains to fight with their weapon. If one person has a lot more force potential, they'll win, they can predict the other person better. If you can predict two moves ahead of someone else, even if they were a master at a weapon, you'd probably win against them as a novice. If you both have the same force potential, the master at the weapon wins. If they're close to equals in both, then you get a duel of chance, one of fatigue, or one of cunning. The last having an example of Palpatine vs Windo.

Absolutely love sword work, so glad to see Logan translating traditional sword stuff into Jedi... or... light saber... or... something. Yeah. Star Wars is a little too flashy in general with the sword arts, but that's what makes this breakdown so great. It's a nice way to analyze and break it apart.
